Please explain what exactly happens during withdrawal from Xanax (alprazolam) and benzo's?

Lots of bad things: Including seizures and delirium (dt's), as well as elevation of blood pressure to where heart damage or stroke may occur. Xanax (alprazolam) is a benzo, and has a more severe withdrawal syndrome because it is so short-acting. Benzos should never be abruptly stopped after chronic use, but should be tapered or replaced with a longer-acting drug that is tapered. Anticonvulsants can also help. ...Read more

How is the best way to quit from Xanax (alprazolam) medication currently taking 1mg before bedtime for 5 months now, II like to stop?

See your MD: Your dr needs to evaluate you and explain the treatment plan. You may be able decrease the dose gradually over a 3 - 4 week period. Some mds may prefer to switch the xanax (alprazolam) to long acting "benzo" med from which you can taper off more comfortably. Again only an md who has evaluated you should decide how best you can be treated. ...Read more

Please describe the next strongest benzodiazepine to xanax (alprazolam)?

Please describe the next strongest benzodiazepine to xanax (alprazolam)?

Depends on the dose: Benzodiazepines differ from each other in their half lifes, which is the time it takes for the body to eliminate half of the medication. Short acting forms are more addicting because they are eliminated faster and as they wear off the person feels it and wants the next dose. Longer acting forms, such as Klonopin (clonazepam), have less of a tendency to do this. Change over needs to be done gradually. ...Read more

What happens if I use Xanax (alprazolam) to get high for fun sometimes but I don't abuse it am I gonna have side effects or its safe?

Using it to get high: Is the same as abusing it. It doesn't mean that you are addicted to it it does mean however that you have either obtained the drug illegally or you are using it against the directions given by your doctor, and quite possibly fraudulently. It is not advisable to use Alprazolam to get high off of. You simply don't know when you're going to pass out or black out. If you were to drive, you could get arrested for driving under the influence of a drug. You could take too much and potentially stop breathing. You could also find yourself in other potentially compromising situations. Just simply take my advice and don't do it. Your life is worth more than this. Get help if you need to. Best wishes. ...Read more

Certain situations cause me social anxiety, I've used Xanax (alprazolam) it works but wears off too quickly. I don't need a daily just sometimes. Advice?

Xanax (alprazolam) is dangerous: I agree this can be treated without medication. CBT is an established treatment.

If you have reasons not to do the work/face the fears involved in overcoming this anxiety (which includes experiencing the satisfaction and pride of having done something despite its difficulty), then medication makes sense.

however, NOT Xanax! Very addictive. Awful withdrawal. A-D's work better, less danger. ...Read more

Is Xanax (alprazolam) effective at treating sleep apnea?

Benzodiazepines as a: Trratment for sleep apnea are contraindicated because they all, including xanax, (alprazolam) tend to depress our respiratory centers and can be even more depressing and even dangerous in sleep apnea. There are other medications that a physician can use to help sleep problems safely. I just got a script for vistaril for anxiety does not work. Xanax (alprazolam) works very well for me. Should I just tell the doc that's what I want?

Symptom side effect: It is best to give md side effects of current rx vistaril plus symptoms you wish to have decreased that are still present from the vistaril. In that way, both of you may choose the best medication for your needs. Xanax (alprazolam) is a controlled substance, and abusable, so a full description of symptoms and side effects is advisable. So the doc doesn't think you have a substance abuse problem. ...Read more

I was prescribed Xanax (alprazolam) to take when I get panic attacks. By the time the Xanax (alprazolam) works, my attack is over. Is there a quicker way to manage the attacks?

Prevent not treat: You've run into a common problem with the use of tranquilizers to treat true panic (which comes on very suddenly & only lasts 10-15 min). No oral med works that fast. The solution is to prevent such attacks ahead of time using cbt psychotherapy, ongoing medication such as an ssri, or both. ...Read more

How horrible is dropping 4 mg of Xanax (alprazolam) on the liver at one time?

Minor: Grapefruit juice inhibits the liver enzymes that break down certain medicines, resulting in a small increase in the medicine's effect. This definitely occurs with valium; there is some uncertainly whether it affects xanax (alprazolam) as much, or at all. It takes a lot of grapefruit juice (at least a pint, probably more) to have this effect. Tell your doc if you drink lots of grapefruit juice regularly. ...Read more

Can ecstasy interact with Xanax and vicodin? I take low doses of Xanax and vicodin daily. .. 2mg of Xanax and 10mg of vicodin. I've taken ecstasy several times, like a dozen times over the past 10 years or so, and never had any serious side effects. .. S

MDMA: Mdma is a very potent stimulant, and affects the central nervous system by causing massive amounts of serotonin to be released. The (mostly) permanent side effects on the brain, affect those areas where serotonin is important in the brain, including the anterior lobes, and hypothalamus, areas closely connected to personality, and the experience of anxiety.
Xanax belomgs to the class of benzodiazepines, which are commonly used to relieve anxiety, but are well known to have long term mood altering side effects (major depression). Vicodin is an analgesic, and has effects on dopamin release in the brain and peripheral nervous system.

Brain physiology and chemistry is very sensitive, and largely unknown. In my opinion the use of mdmd is hazardous at best, and the long term side effects on the brain are not beneficial. Combining mdma with any other mood altering drugs is even more hazardous, and may result in fatal consequences. ...Read more

My sister is having seziures and I think its from her medication. She is taking Xanax (alprazolam) and at night melatonin could the two be a bad combination?

See a doctor: If your sister is having seizures, she should see a doctor immediately so that a diagnosis can be made and treatment prescribed. Withdrawal from large doses of Xanax (alprazolam) can cause seizures, so if she is taking a large dose and suddenly stops it she might have seizures. Otherwise it is unlikely that either Xanax (alprazolam) or melatonin would cause seizures. ...Read more
