Depends on dose: Zoloft and wellbutrin (bupropion) are moderate, dose-related inhibitors of cyp450 2d6 for which zoloft partly depends upon for its metabolism. Zoloft usually only inhibits 2d6 at higher doses (150-200mg). It might be worthy to be genotyped for this enzyme to assure you are a extensive metobolizer (em) type. My dr prescribed me methylphenidate 27mg which made me sleepy. My dr then prescribed me phenylalanine 37.5mg for fatigue. Are these meds ok together?
Not phenylalanine: I think you mean phentermine. There is a risk of cardiovascular and CNS stimulatory effects between the two with possible additive toxicity. If you are getting that sleepy on methylphenidate (mp), my practice style would be to have you stop the mp, review for a primary sleep disorder such as sleep apnea as a cause for the adhd. Review with doctor: Agree with comments made by others re drug interactions and need to justify each med. Meantime, write down each med/dose/when started/possible side effects and review each one with prescribing doctor. Good to question if too many meds. I'm on paxil and it's not helping with my depression. Doctor wants me to take abilify (aripiprazole) and stop paxil. Could I have bad side affects? Will it work?
Not a antidepressant: Abilify (aripiprazole) is an anti-psychotic. Some Dr's use it for bi-polar or as a additional drug for major depression. If this Dr is not a specialist, you might want to find a psychiatrist for better management. Paxil is one of several SSRIs - another might work. In any case, you need a taper from it to avoid w/drawal risks (serotonin syndrome). Also, consider talk therapy to optimize treatment success. Best! ...Read more

Many choices: If this is your first try at mood maintenance meds, you have many good medicines for a next try: lexapro, celexa, cymbalta (duloxetine). Be sure to give each medicine a decent try - at leat a month. If you have an intolerance, hang in there and give the medicine a full month to "percolate" in your system.
