Why Am I Gaining Weight On Levothyroxin
I have been taking levothyroxine for years but I am still gaining weight in spite of diet and exercise. Why?
I'm 16 and have been taking levothyroxine 25 mcg for 8 years. I am always tired and I exercise constantly, but I'm still gaining weight. What can I do?
Watch diet: See your doctor to develop a diet and exercise plan that is best for you. Be honest about your concerns. There is a small chance your dosage may be adjusted. The most likely problem is diet. Reduce carbs, eat small meals more frequently, favor slow burn carbs over quickly absorbed carbs like sugars and starches. Cut out soda pop. Switch to water. Keep a log of all you eat and calculate the calories. ...Read more
Gaining weight thyroid labs are tt3-1.17. Ft4 11.1(veryhigh) and tsh1.20. Dr. Says I'm hypo prescribes levothyroxine.I'm scared its serious w wrong meds?
Thyroid : Thanks for resend. Still, not quite sure what is going on from info. Certainly the thyroid bloodwork should be repeated. If it still comes out the same you should have a nuc-med thyroid uptake and scan. Sometime the T4 is high if you take the med the day of the test, but not that high. The TSH being normal is a good sign. It is the most sensitive indicator of your thyroid health. See endo. ...Read more
Tsh 12hypothyroid with weight loss. After taking levothyroxine 75 mcg I gained weight in normal bmi. All gaining weight with hypo but I lost why?
Not thyroid.: If your TSH is 0.4 you are on the right dose of levothyroxine. Continued weight gain and tiredness are likely due to something else. Some physicians might measure your free T3 (liothyronine) / free T4 and consider boosting your dose or supplementing you, but I think you have another issue. Regular exercise, sleep and a good diet. ...Read more
Help.?. Dr. Prescribed 100mcg levothyroxine after my labs stated TSH 1.20(.35-4.94) and my freet4 11.1(.70-1.48 ng/dl) I've been gaining a lot of weight
???: Something doesn't make sense. Maybe the numbers are on wrong or the story is not clear. A normal TSH and elevated t4. And levothyeoxine was started. Re enter the question with more info. Have you been on thyroid meds? Do you have a diagnosis of hypothyroid. I do not recommend using thyroid meds to lose weight! ...Read more
I am hypothyroid over 30 years. On 200mcg levothyroxine and TSH is .4 and T4 and ft3 are normal. Still gaining lots of weight and extremely exhausted?
Not a good idea: A high dose of thyroid will increase your metabolic rate, but also your appetite. Will also raise your heart rate, give palpitations, stress your heart, make you hot all the time, anxious, and much more. In the medical field, this would be a clear misuse of the medication. ...Read more
I take 50 mg of levothyroxine but my weight creeping up and up even with diet and excercise. Do I need to take more dose to higher my metabolism?
No: Your dose of thyroid medication should be adjusted based on your lab tests. Your weight may or may not be related to your thyroid level. To lose weight you will need to burn off more calories than you take in. Take a close look at your activity level and total calorie intake. A good start is to keep intake below 1500 calories ...Read more

I was over medicated on Levothyroxine, so I'm on half the dose. I lost 15lbs in weight, it's been 5 weeks and I have not gained any weight back.??
Thyroid and wt loss: Thyroid harmones helps with metabolism. Low functioning thyroid can slow the metabolism Nd decrease weight and high dose of levothyroxine may have increased your thyroid function so you lost weight. It has been 5 weeks since you are on half the dose, get your TSH levels checked so you can be on proper dose needed for you. Are you actually trying to gain weight? ...Read more
Hypothyroidism: Given its long half-life, we re-check your TSH about 6-8wks after you start Levothyroxine or change your dose. There are many symptoms to hypothyroidism (that's why you're taking Levothyroxine, right?), some of which take longer to resolve than others, but most within that 6-8wk period, if you're taking right dose for you. But weight won't magically melt off w/o exercising & eating health ...Read more
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid about three months ago. My dr. Put me on levothyroxin, stopped most symptoms but can't lose weight. What can I do?
Repeat labs: A repeat set of thyroid tests can help determine if the replacement hormone levels are appropriate. If the thyroid levels demonstrate suboptimal activity, the medication may still be adjusted. On the other hand, diet and exercise may be the solution if the thyroid function is normal. ...Read more

Misinformed?: You are using medications to treat medical conditions. They are not designed to be weight loss medications and you cannot possibly rely on them to be such. I'm taking levothyroxine sodium 125 mcg per day, what supplement can I take to lose weight? I eat healty & exer. I weight 194.I'm 47yr. Old,
No easy answer: As long as your thyroid level is normal, this is not the reason for your weight problem. Although supplements are a multi-billion dollar industry, there are very few if any legitimate studies that show that they work. You should get a full examination to make sure there are no other reasons for your weight problem, after that it comes down to the basic reality of fewer calories in, more exercise. ...Read more
Can you take hydrocut while take levothyroxine or what diet pills can I take with levothyroxine. I've been watching what I eat I exercise. Gaining weigh?
I m 79 kg height 162 CM female. I'm taking levothyroxine.im physically active do cardio and 5km walk . I m losing my inches bt unable to lose weight?
Hypothyroid?: I am assuming you need the levothyroxine because you are hypothyroid, otherwise that is pretty dangerous. Being physically active alone does not mean you will lose weight. You have to also reduce the number of calories consumed. There are many calculators online as well as fitness apps that can help you out. But remember it isn't the weight that matters its how much of that is fat vs muscle. ...Read more

Is it safe to continue my dose of levothyroxine and begin taking Garcinia Cambogia to lose weight?
It is probably safe: It is probably safe but it may not be very effective. Garcinia cambogia is a tropical fruit, the Malabar tamarind. It is touted to block fat metabolism and may naturally raise serotonin making you feel less hungry. I doubt it has any special negative effects in those taking thyroid supplements. But it's actual weight loss results aren't impressive. I would probably save my money. Good wishes:) ...Read more
How can I loose weight if I'm hypothyroid? Is there any medicine that's safe to take with levothyroxine for weight loss?
Weight and thyroid: Hi. Assuming your hypothyroidism is treated, it's not the cause or a factor in your overweight/obesity. The 4 prescription drugs that are FDA-approved for chronic treatment for weight loss can all be used with treated hypothyroidism: Qsymia, Belviq, (lorcaserin) Contrive, and (when it becomes available), Saxenda.
