Need to Know More: PCOS is very unfortunately named. A more accurate name is Female Hyperandrogenism. Polycystic Ovaries are not even major criteria in making the diagnosis. Up to 50% of young woman WITHOUT PCOS have polycystic ovaries and about 20% of young woman with it DO NOT HAVE polycystic ovaries. It is simply misnamed.
