Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! The image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more

Almost no risk:
Please see: http://www. Scientificamerican. Com/article/how-much-ct-scans-increase-risk-cancer/
1) CT head exposure is mostly confined to the head, not the whole body.
2) There may be cellular repair at doses as low as CT, limiting cancer rates. (We don't know how much).
3) Whatever the theoretical risk, there must be a good reason to do the CT in the first place. ...Read more
USUALLY NOT: Since aneurysms are a 'defect' in the arterial system --they can really only be seen with a contrast ct study (angiogram) or a mra (mri-angiogram). One time I did have a patient with a leaking brain aneurysm which the effects of which were barely visible on ct but confirmed on mra--and she made it! ...Read more
Would an infection of mastoid/ temperol bone-posterior show on a CT scan of the head? Is it possible to mistake it for an old infarction?
Many things.: It can detect many conditions. Ct is particulaly good at detecting bleeding in the acute setting and hydrocephalus, and some masses. It's not nearly as good as MRI for looking at small structures and white matter disease. Both ct and MRI are usually more sensetive and specific when contrast is given. ...Read more

Ct scan after hitting head negative but I feel my balance is off and my eyesight seems worse. What next?
Depends: What region is scanned depends on why the scan is ordered. If the patient is unresponsive or in a trauma situation, the scan is often more widespread to include head and body. If a medical problem appears to be isolated to the chest or head, only that area is scanned. ...Read more
Not ALL....: No ct scan (or mri, which is better for this) can detect everything. The results of any scan have to be put in the context of the symptoms that led to it being ordered. You doc will go over its findings with you and decide if you need additional tests. That being said, a good ct with contrast should see a good percentage of brain lesions. Best to you. ...Read more
Depends on contrast:
A ct of head with no contrast feels like nothing. It will take about 15-20 sec if that.
If one would need contrast then an IV would need to be started and then a non contrast ct done then the contrast one done. The contrast may cause flushing or warmth. Certain allergies may restrict you from getting this as well as kidney disorders. ...Read more
See below.: Depends upon indication for exam, and whether contrast is indicated. Essentially you lie on your back with your head in the large opening while the ct takes images. If contrast is necessary, the study is repeated after the contrast injection. ...Read more
Many things: A non-contrast ct is really done for acute scenarios - mostly in the er - to rule out acute bleeds, particuarly in patients with trauma or altered mental status. It's a quick test, but doesn't offer a ton of info. If not an urgent situation, a contrast enhanced ct or MRI are preferable as they give much more information. ...Read more
