Some antidepressants also have longer half-lives than others so, since you have been on so many for I don't know how long, it is hard to predict how long the side-effects linger. Side effects: I suspect you have a difficult to treat depression and the combination of meds is not unreasonable. Discuss with your psychiatrist your side effects. My experience suggests that your BP may be up and should be checked. Tinnitus (ringing in ears) seems more likely with ne meds which high dose of venlafaxine does. Your md might consider a more ssri med like zoloft (sertraline) to replace venlafaxine. ...Read more

Not wasted: The effects of antidepressants don't depend on their elimination half-lives. Long term changes occur in cells as a result of ongoing exposure to the med. Half-life issues have more to do with immediate side-effects. That said, venlafaxine (effexor) is usually prescribed in time-release versions ("xr") now, to spread absorption over the day. Not now: If you stopped it on your own 5 months ago you are fine in terms of withdrawal side effects. The only danger would come if you are starting to feel depressed again and needed to get restarted on your medication.
