Upper Respiratory Symptoms
Been very sick with upper respiratory symptoms. For 3 weeks. Went to ER no tests done said it's secondary virus. What does this mean? How do they know
I have had upper respiratory symptoms for 4 days & currently taking levaquin (levofloxacin). I am lethargic, worse fever & chills& have a fine rash to neck&torso?
See doc.: The fact that you are taking Levaquin (levofloxacin) suggests that you have a bacterial pneumonia. The fact that you are not better suggests that you have a resistant organism ( seems unlikely) or a viral illness ( much more likely) which did not need antibiotics in the first place. Sounds like you should see doc and get another handle on this. You may need an influenza a/b swab. ...Read more
My upper respiratory symptoms are runny nose 24 hour, mild cough, shortness of breath, nasal congestion, stuffy nose.So kindly tell me the best medicine ?
See below: You have a cold. I recommend an over the counter decongestant either phenylephrine nose drops or spray or pseudephedrine tablets (the ones locked up behind the counter). Use them for only 3-4 days to avoid rebound phenomenon. You could also take tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain relief and throat lozenges if sore throat. Take Robitussin-DM for cough. Keep yourself well hydrated and you should get better soon. ...Read more

Can you get a upper respiratory infection with symptoms of just shortness of breath and lightheaded?
Uncertain: Symptoms of shortness of breath and lightheadedness may be the result of an upper respiratory infection, but other conditions, such as heart failure, chronic obstructive lung disease, heart attack, stroke, other serious infections in the blood stream or abdomen, diabetes with severe acidosis, dehydration, or intestinal hemorrhage can cause the same symptoms. A prompt medical evaluation is needed. ...Read more
I recently had an upper respiratory infection. With the symptoms of congestion;nasal drip sore throat and pain in sinuses. I still have a slight sore?
I have had respiratory symptoms for over a week and learned that I have likely been exposed to Covid19. Why am I being advised to just stay home and not being offered testing? Why do I have to reach medical emergency status to even be tested?
Avoid spread: Please stay home, rest and drink fluids. Monitor your temperature. If your cough or shortness of breath worsen, please see a physician and arrange testing. A chest image should be obtained at the same time if there are lower respiratory tract findings. ...Read more

I have chest congestion after lying down. Sometimes when I wake in the morning I cough up lots of mucus. No other respiratory symptoms. Causes?
Cough: You perceive it in the chest but it really is that you have mucus from your nose which at night drops to the back of yr throat (gravity) where u have cough receptors that make you cough. You should treat your allergies (plenty of OTC meds), get a good HEPA filter for home use and speak to yr doc to get benzonatate 200mg q8h for a few days. ...Read more
