Combining toxins. ..: Combining the toxic effects of alcohol and nicotine on one's brain and other parts of his body can cause noticeable problems. When symptoms show up, it's time to return to the doctor to work out a plan to stop taking in the toxins. What are some good foods/drinks (other than alcohol) that would be good or bad to help me through the shakes and nausea?
ORS: Ors, or oral rehydration solution, should help. These treatments will help keep your electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) at normal levels. Understand that drinks like gatorade are ok, but can have a lot of sugar and calories, so be cautious. Seek care if the symptoms last more than 36 hours or worsen. ...Read more

Dr prescribed klonopin (clonazepam) to help with alcohol withdrawals. I start tomorrow, am curious if this is enough to help with withdrawals. Shakes, seizures etc?
Prob a good idea...: Hi Stephen91. Congratulations on deciding to withdraw from alcohol use. Hope you are in touch with AA and have adopted 'the method' as a long term strategy. Benzodiazapines like klonopin (clonazepam) enhance GABA transmission, and help prevent the feelings and the seizures that sometimes occur with abrupt alcohol cessation. Also suggest multivitamins and lots of fluids. Good luck. ...Read more

Concerning: Those are symptoms that definitely raise concern. Recurrent chills and sweats raise concern on a number of topics. When I drink I get really cold, to the point where my entire body is shaking, is this considered alcohol poisoning?
My husband had un controllable chills last night, but no fever and he wasn't cold to the touch. He couldn't stop whole body from shaking.?
Chills: These are often related to the differential temperatures between the individual and the ambient atmosphere temp. Sometimes the stimulus from the area of the brain (hypothalamus) that serves as the body thermostat creates chilling to increase the body temp by muscular activity and he may have developed fever later after the chills. This is very bad for your depression and your overall health, and doesn't allow your medication to work. Talk to your doctor and get help! You should not be drinking even socially, let alone heavily. The shaking may indeed be a reaction to the combo. I am more concerned about ur drinking than shaking. ...Read more
When I eat in front of anyone I shake but ok alone, I'm only ok when had some alcohol, I eat ok alone tho, is this common?
Not unique or common: This sounds like a good time for some psychotherapy. The social anxiety, possible eating disorder potential and questionable use of alcohol are all worth an eval. They may be mild now, but each can blossom into difficult levels untreated. Therapy may be enough or a referral for meds can be obtained. I'm glad you noticed it early. Best! ...Read more

When I drink alcohol I shake really bad and throw up and I cannot sleep. Is this a type of alcohol alcohol poisoning?
Intolerance: Several possibilities, including quantity of ingestion. Sounds like you experience stomach reaction to drinking alcohol and you likely have very low tolerance, which suggests avoidance of drinking would be quite stabilizing. Obviously, if you consume excessive amounts, you could approach acute alcohol toxicity, and "poisoning". Sounds like you are having complex issues. Talk to your doctor. ...Read more
