Sigmoid colon cancer removed surgically. After 10 days ultrasound impression is ' subacute small bowel intestinal obstruction and mild intraperitoneal free fluid collection. Is this common?
The gastrointestinal tract starts at the mouth, travel down the tunnel (esophagus), which connects to the stomach, which then empties into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum---the three parts of the small intestine (@25 feet). Cystic lesion 6.3x4.0cm abuts small bowel. Located between bowl loops and splenic flexture. Is this cancer. Had CT scan for slight pain. No obstruct.
Highly Unlikely: What you are describing sounds like a mesenteric cyst. Cancers can develop in these cysts, but the odds are probably "one in a million". Unfortunately, there's not much you can do with these other than excision, sometimes requiring removal of the adjacent intestine. Please see a surgeon with extensive laparoscopic experience--they can help you sort this out and decide if surgery is needed. ...Read more
Would an abdominal MRI with contrast to check on kidney cyst also show pancreatic cancer? It said pancreas was normal. Also had clean ab ultrasound.
Does an ultrasound clearly differentiate between ovarian cyst and ovarian cancer. Does ovary/period pain after eating sound like large cyst. ?
Ultrasound: An ultrasound may show whether the ovary is fluid filled or solid, or simple or complex. Ovarian cancer is usually complex and solid, but not always. A repeat ultrasound is often recommended. A CA 125 blood test may help differentiate the two... Mri abd prob focal modular hyperplasia & cyst (small) on liver. If md orders ultrasound of abdomen, what will it show that the MRI didn't is us needed
See below: Us may be used to confirm the cyst if the MRI was not performed with contrast. Us does not help further characterize the focal nodular hyperplasia, although it can be used for future follow up. It may also be possible that biopsy of the "probable" focal nodular hyperplasia was recommended and us is done to see if this nodule can be seen on us for us-guided biopsy. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
