What amount tylenol (acetaminophen) can kill you?

What amount tylenol (acetaminophen) can kill you?

Totally depends: There are many factors at play - timing, dosing, age, underlying illness, baseline health of your liver, other medications/drugs, the population ratios of cytochrome P450 isoenzymes in you (genetics). The bigger question is why are you asking? Did you make a mistake taking meds? Just curious? Do you want to hurt yourself or someone else? Follow the instructions on bottle. Liver failure is not fun. ...Read more

If 1/2 life = 2-3 hr: You should be quite safe 24hrs later. You can always check with the tylenol (acetaminophen) tech support folk - or your pharmacist or doctor. But the next day sounds reasonably safe. Hope it goes fine. ...Read more

When can I start giving my child tylenol (acetaminophen)?

Usually...: The first use of Acetaminophen is usually to treat or decrease fever, crying or swelling after a vaccine shot, which usually happens after 6 weeks of age. You: You referred to feeling "paranoid". I am not sure if you are using the term loosely to refer to feeling apprehensive about the size of your pupils and your breathing. If you are using the term paranoid literally, then it may be helpful to know that feelings of paranoia can be a side effect of Codeine use. ...Read more

Which is better and the most effective tylenol (acetaminophen) or Excedrin for tension headache / migraine?

Which is better and the most effective tylenol (acetaminophen) or Excedrin for tension headache / migraine?

Depends: Excedrin contains tylenol (or acetaminophen)/caffeine/aspirin. For some people, tylenol alone can help with their headache. For more severe headache/migraine, excedrin might help better since it has caffeine which helps to constrict your blood vessels. In both cases, it will not treat/cure your headache, but it will help with the pain. ...Read more

I'm prescribed antibiotics & prednisone for chronic sinusitis, I don't want to take the prednisone, would tylenol (acetaminophen) work just as well?

Not really: The Prednisone that you were prescribed is not necessary for treatment for your chronic sinusitis. It was given to you to help reduce the symptoms of sinusitis, such as pain and inflammation in your sinuses. Tylenol (acetaminophen) would not work as well since it is not an anti-inflammatory. You can take Ibuprofen or Naproxen instead of the prednisone, if you don't have any contraindications to those medications. ...Read more

I have chronic hcv, enzymes are normal, I also use trileptal, can I take tylenol (acetaminophen) safely every day at 500-1500 mg to combat chronic body pain.

Probably but ask MD: You want to avoid going as high as 2000 to minimize liver problems (lower dose if you are a small individual). Make sure your Trileptal level is in the therapeutic range and that your sodium level is not low on Trileptal. (blood test) You can have your liver enzymes checked at the same time to make sure you are tolerating the Tylenol (acetaminophen). Make sure your Vit D level is OK if you have back pain. ...Read more

Is tylenol (acetaminophen) dangerous for people with hepatitis c?

Emily Lu Dr. Lu

Is tylenol (acetaminophen) dangerous for people with hepatitis c?

Low dose recommended: Tylenol (acetaminophen) is generally not a problem for people with liver disease, so long as you take a relatively low dose (not to exceed 2 grams in 24 hours). In general, hepatitis patients do not have to worry about adjusting drug dosages until they start getting chronic liver problems. When these problems begin, they should avoid other anti-inflammtory drugs (like ibuprofen, aspirin, etc.) besides tylenol (acetaminophen). ...Read more

Why is nac (n-acetylcystein) administered to antidote tylenol (acetaminophen) toxicity instead of using gluathione exogenous supplement directly?

Standard protocol ;: Good question. Nac is well-proven to work ; is the standard protocol. Glutathione might work as well or better but I'm unaware of any studies showing it works. Also, standard glutathione is poorly absorbed orally. It might work well given IV but has a short shelf-life ; is not generally available in er's.

I've had a Head ache on the right side of my head for the last 6 days. No dizziness, no side effects. Tylenol (acetaminophen) works but when wore off, pain is back.

Focal headache: Because you are young the most probable answer will be migraine driven by stress (migraine by itself only tends to last for a few hours, or until sleep). Being on Celexa (citalopram) might support this possibility. On the other hand, focal persistent headache raises the question of a "secondary headache" disorder where headache is a symptom of another disorder. Probably should see you PCP for eval. ...Read more

Got a pill from a friend I recently got a pill from a friend. He told me it was like tylenol or advil. It is red on one half and blue on the other, with a white stripe separating the colours in the middle. It is a capsule shape. I have taken one with no

A: A number of things should be noted from your questions. First - it is generally not a good practice to take medication, whether "over-the-counter" or prescription, from someone else. Even well intentioned friends may not know important details of your medical history that may make it unwise or dangerous to use certain medications. Second - "tylenol" is a brand name for acetaminophen, and "advil" is a brand name for ibuprofen. Although both of these medications can be used for fever or pain reduction, they are different types of medication. Whether either of them is safe or correct for you to use could only be determined based on your medical background: important facts would include medications you may take for chronic conditions, and any history of allergies or intolerance of other medications. Third - there are many online "pill identifier" websites now; but the medication you are referring to may not be referenced since it is an over-the-counter product. Better to consult with your physician about what medications are right for you, and take only medication that you can verify by it's source bottle or package. ...Read more

Can you tell me if I could take anything in combination with tylenol (acetaminophen) cold pm?

Med interaction:
You should always check if there is going to be an interaction with a medication you take regularly or for a brief illness. So it really depends what you want to use with the Tylenol (acetaminophen) PM. More Tylenol (acetaminophen) might give too high a Tylenol (acetaminophen) dose, but advil used to alleviate symptoms that were not managed well with the Tylenol (acetaminophen) pm would not interact with Tylenol (acetaminophen). ...Read more
