Likely sampling: If your kid is running around all day acting relatively normal you are less likely to take his/her temperature and realize it is up. When they are not sleeping well you check their temperature more often, so you are more likely to find it when they are expected to be asleep. Can be: The average toddler is expected to get 5-7 respiratory illnesses/yr to age 5 and 1-3 diarrhea illnesses in the same time frame. To space it every other month would be pretty common.
