Multinodular goiter dx. Us biopsy of thyroid- benign. What's the treatment for goiter? History of cancer- can't I just get it removed prophylacticly?

Multinodular goiter dx. Us biopsy of thyroid- benign. What's the treatment for goiter? History of cancer- can't I just get it removed prophylacticly?

Why?: Unless it represents a danger like cancer, or is a severe physical or cosmetic problem, why remove an organ "prophylactically"/ if that were true, why not also "prophylactically" remove your nose, breasts, external ears, toes, one kidney......And all the other parts of your body you don't really need that could potentially cause trouble in the future?

I have celiac disease and had my thyroid removed (benign goiter). Do I need to go for genetic testing before getting pregnant?

I have celiac disease and had my thyroid removed (benign goiter). Do I need to go for genetic testing before getting pregnant?

Counselling helps: I think anyone who has concerns about planing a pregnancy should consider consulting a geneticist. Every pregnancy has about 4% risk of an unexpected event, that includes prematurity, cleft lip, & others. Within your family tree there may be issues on either side that deserve discussion. With that data in hand you can approach the process with less worry on most occasions. See www. Nsgc. Org for list.

Possible thyroid enlargement / who do I tell?

Possible thyroid enlargement / who do I tell?

Your PCP!: Most doctors can adequately assess your thyroid concerns, and make an appointment with an endocrinologist if needed. The tests I recommend are free t3, (liothyronine) tsh, antithyroid antibodies. If you have a goiter, you may need an ultrasound. If thyroid disease is common in family members, it increases your likelyhood of having issues.

Possible thyroid enlargement I think. Dr says no. What now?

Possible thyroid enlargement I think. Dr says no. What now?

Thyroid: Its called goiter. Ask for a thyroid ultrasound. Minimally ask for an antibody test that can detect inflammatory agents causing the enlargement. Thyroid function test as well. If you've got a family history of thyroid disease in first-degree relative, you should be screened anyway.

How do doctors know that it's the thyroid enlargement causing difficulty breathing verses something else?

Depends: One would have to have evaluation of airway by ct scan or bronchsoscopy to assess impingement of the airway.

Is thyroiditis (based on u/s that showed borderline thyroid enlargement /goiter) related to thyroid cancer? If no nodes were seen? Have globus symptom

Is thyroiditis (based on u/s that showed borderline thyroid enlargement /goiter) related to thyroid cancer? If no nodes were seen? Have globus symptom

Globus: You started with a globus sensation which may be due to an anxiety disorder. You had a thyroid U/S done which sounds to be NORMAL. Thyroiditis is not diagnosed on ultrasound, its based on hormone levels. You have no goiter or nodules. You have a normal exam. You need to address the globus. You can get an ENT exam with laryngopharyngoscopy and talk to your doctor about treating anxiety or OCD.

My Daughter has thyroid enlargement. Sym were Neck bulge & Cough, trouble swallowing, tired. Ultrasound said thyroid enlarged no mass, what causes this?

Several causes.: Enlarger thryoid is called a goiter, and in many countries is caused by lact of iodine in the diet, but that is rare in the US. More likely, since no masses or nodules are seen on ultrasound, it is caused by Graves disease or hyperthyroidism or inflammation of the gland often called Hashimoto's. Blood tests for T3, T4 and antibodies are helpful. See http://www. Mayoclinic. Org/diseases-conditions/goiter/symptoms-causes/dxc-20264595

I am experiencing thyroid enlargement. The following also describe me: Neck lump or bulge, Throat tightness, and Difficulty breathing. Last may 5 201?

Head & Neck Surgeon: You have a goiter that is pressing on your pharynx and even compressing your trachea (your airway). You need to have it removed surgically ASAP! Go see MD (not a nurse practitioner) and don't let them dilly dally around. Get an Ultrasound or a CAT scan of your neck done to verify the source of the mass, and get a referral to a Head and Neck Surgeon ASAP!!!

I am experiencing thyroid enlargement. The following also describe me: Neck lump or bulge, Hoarse voice, and Cough. What should I do? T4 results 4.32 and TSH 0.006.

I am experiencing thyroid enlargement. The following also describe me: Neck lump or bulge, Hoarse voice, and Cough. What should I do? T4 results 4.32 and TSH 0.006.

Inconsistency: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your T4 and TSH results do not comport with each other. You should discuss it with the doctor who ordered the tests or see and endocrinologist.
