Thyroid Biopsy Why Is It Taking So Long To Hear Back
I hear bladderwrack is good for the thyroid. Is it safe to take when you're on synthroid (thyroxine)?
Biopsy is tissue removed by needle or cutting to remove part of a body part. It is usually a small amount of material that is processed by a pathologist. Most of the time it is stained and looked at through a microscope to arrive at a diagnosis. Special processes are done for some tissues or problems. The purpose is to tell what the problem is (diagnosis). ...Read more
Digestion not good, doctors conducted freq. Tsh tests after few mths. It is under the range but it is incr'g . It is 2.4 now. So what to do.
My FEV1/FVC is 85.7% , and the dr is saying for me take spiriva why do i need to take it if my PFT resutl is normal? is it a must to take it !!?
Hard to Say: Only knowing your FEV1/FVC ratio does not give enough information to answer your question. Spiriva is typically used for COPD or emphysema or added to other medications for asthma. I would not ignore what your doctor told you and if you are unsure about using a medication you should always discuss that with your doctor. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is it possible to be hypothyroid even if my TSH level is normal? It is 1.3. I have all the symptoms but my doctor doesn't want to test me further.
Why do I have to take opiates to feel normal? It takes away the pain and it gives me more physical/mental capability... Why is this?
Drug dependence: It looks like you have a drug/substance dependency. That means after taking opiates for sometimes, your brain will get used to having the medications. When you don't take that substance again, you brain will ask for it by making you feel not well until you take it again. At 17 year old, you are too young to be addicted to opiates. Please come see a local physician for a discussion, to get help. ...Read more

Hi TSH is 5.6 doctor said to start medication small dose, my concern is that it will be for life, can I stop medication once TSH is back to normal?
TSH slightly up: Presumably you do not have symptoms of hypothyroid. First, repeat the test. The TSH may now be normal. If there is reason to believe the thyroid is in the early stages of failing, then it is ok to start medication. Eg. Family history, pos tpo antibodies. Otherwise, it is ok to follow the TSH and begin meds if TSH elevates further. ...Read more

Thank you doctor when can i stop my thyroid medicine many people said that thyroid medicine should take life long is this is true please explain me?
Thyroid Medicine: Do not stop thyroid medication unless under the direction of a physician. Except rarely it is to be taken life long. We give thyroid medication usually for low thyroid, which usually is due to the thyroid not working after a viral thyroiditis. Rarely does the thyroid heal enough to produce enough hormone on it's own again. ...Read more
Why do I have hair on my penis? Is this common? I don't let it affect me, if anything it improves pleasure for women. It goes about half way up.
Normal Anatomy: Have on the shaft of the penis is rare, but not abnormal if present. Sometimes a circumcision at birth that removes too much normal penile shaft skin is then corrected by tthe body with a oulling down of skin form the pubic area. If this happens, when one goes through puberty the "penis skin" grows hair like the area in the pubic region. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What does mean if my thyroid result is 18.4 and 1.22 I'm on thyroxine but not sure if this is good my doc said she would like it to be 0.4?
Problem with report: I'm sorry I can't comment as I'm not sure what tests you are reporting. First there is the problem of units ... I'm not sure we use the same units (mcU/mL here) for TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) which is what, I think, your physician is targeting for a treatment goal. An 18 would be high in our typical units for thyroxine OR TSH. So we need a little more detailed information in order to help. ...Read more

Have been wanting to say something to therapist and doctor for a long time but each time I can't, is it acceptable to write or is this too weird ?
No, Not Weird.Honest: This is the age of e-mail and it shouldn't hurt to ask if you can send them something that way. That may start a meaningful conversation. If you don't have e-mail then you could use handwriting and take it or send it to the doctor and therapist. It's too bad you don't feel comfortable talking face to face, but that happens. The important thing is to settle whatever issues you have. With anyone, really ...Read more

Hi There! I just had a question as far as the body tissue that contracts is it normal for it to keep happening? Should I be taking anything OTC to help it from occurring? It's very painful while it contracts and then when it goes down I'm ok just extremel
1st. NormalOnlyMeans: capable of contraction & no human body muscles (except heart muscle, ~110 times/min without brain inputs) contract without a direct nerve fiber stimulus from the brain (most as signals relayed via the spinal cord). I.e. Body is an extension of the mind & brain. 2nd Normal only means common, no necessary relation with health/disease, good/bad. Avoid conflating issues. 3rd Your specific question? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

This is a bad thing to ask but i want my vp shunt to break bc it is giving me pain but neurosurgeon said its fine how to make it break
Thyroid glands can develop nodules and an important way to determine whether the nodule is cancerous is a needle biopsy. This is done under ultrasound guidance and uses a very fine needle. The procedure in not as bad as it may sound and is done as an outpatient. It is best done by someone who does this all the time so that adequate material is ...Read more
