How long does teething generally last before a tooth visibly comes in?

Hard to say: Since people often attribute any unexplained fussiness to teething it is hard to decide if is even a real condition in most. Brazelton's studies long ago showed the normal kids fuss daily but the intensity declines as they develop skills like rolling over which corresponds to the time some begin to have teeth emerge. Responding to a chilled teething ring may or may not verify teething pain. ...Read more

My 17 m/o:runny nose <1 week, sometimes congestion. No other symptoms. Teething? Seasonal allergies? Just finished first molars. Other allergies?

Probably not: Probably allergies or cold. If your child has not yet seen a dentist (preferably a pediatric dental specialist) you're overdue. Although most general dentists say wait until2-3, that's late for developmental evaluation which is part of a pediatric dental specialists training during their post-dental school residency. ...Read more

How can I help soothe my teething baby?

Let them chew: Chewing on something cold and firm is helpful. One idea is to give them a damp washcloth that as been frozen in the freezer to chew on. Commercial teeth rings that can be frozen are available as well. Teething is a normal process. I would avoid medication like painkillers unless absolutely necessary. Most babies really don't need them. ...Read more

Galbladder remove May 2014. diagnose wit fatty liver. Eversince diagnosis, been havin sore gums bhind my top teeth and sore top gums. Is this related?

Not related: Hi. No, fatty liver and gingivitis (sore, inflamed gums) are not related. Poor diabetes control can cause both, but you don't indicate diabetes or diabetes meds in your data. Are you overweight? If so, I'd suggest being tested for diabetes; having diabetes and not knowing it DOESN'T protect you from the problems it causes! Good luck! ...Read more

How long can a 1yr old have diarrhea due to teething. Mine having diarrhea for 10 days n he is teething. Nothing came out in stool test?

Teething: Babies usually begin teething between 3 and 18 months old and continue teething until all 20 "baby" teeth emerge. Teeth emerge slowly over time, making it seem as if babies are constantly teething. Mild diarrhea sometimes accompanies teething, but contact your child's pediatrician if diarrhea is severe or constant. ...Read more

10 month old had 2 uti's, had symptoms for #3 in less 2 months. On meds. Culture neg, waiting to do tests could teething cause high white blood cells?

No: Teething does not cause an elevation of your white blood cell count. An elevated WBC count a this age is almost always due to an infection somewhere, and with a history of uti's already I would be looking in this area. It could be a kidney abcess, blood infection, or infection totally somewhere else in the body. There are other more rare causes of elevated wbc's, but teething is not one of them. ...Read more
