The gastrointestinal tract starts at the mouth, travel down the tunnel (esophagus), which connects to the stomach, which then empties into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum---the three parts of the small intestine (@25 feet). This empties into the colon or large intestine (about 5 feet), which then becomes the sigmoid colon, rectum and out the anus. So, every morsel eaten ...Read more

Sit in warm water, increase fluid intake and take fiber/stool softener and should improve within next several days. ...Read more

How serious is this condition? Frequent gas with small amounts of soft stool containing trickles of red blood
Blood : Blood on the stool could represent bleeding from hemorrhoids. Blood mixed with stool suggests a source higher in the colon, which could be more serious. While there are many benign causes for such bleeding, and it usually stops by itself, bleeding from the bowel warrants investigation by colonoscopy. Until you have a full examination, i would suggest that you avoid medications that thin the blood, such as aspirin. If you are taking blood thinners like Plavix (clopidogrel) or coumadinn, you may need to have your doses adjusted, but you should not stop taking them wothout talking to your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
