What are HIV & AIDS? What's the difference? Why is it the worst disease/STD according to majority of doctors? Are they treatable? P.S:I'm not infected

Virus versus disease: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus. The advanced form of HIV infection is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The term AIDS isn't used much anymore, mostly just called HIV infection. It's the worst STD because unlike all others, it is usually fatal if untreated. Treatment is very effective to both prolong life and prevent transmission to partners. Search online for more info. ...Read more

Can doctors treat you for an STD if you've been exposed to one? Like chlyamedia?

Can doctors treat you for an STD if you've been exposed to one? Like chlyamedia?

Yes: You always have the option of undergoing screening and testing for stds. An alternative approach to assuring treatment of partners is expedited partner therapy (ept). Ept is the delivery of medications or prescriptions by persons infected with an std to their sex partners without clinical assessment of the partners. This is allowable or potentially permitted in 44 states. I hope this helps. ...Read more

Is it bad to be treated for STDs if you may not have them, doc's orders as " precaution, " it won't create a resistance will it?

STDs & Public Health: In many circles there is a standard to treat in high risk situations regardless of test results. The epidemic of gonorrhea and chlamydia is getting worse and this is because not everyone is getting treated appropriately. If there is a risk it is best to get this treated than to become sterile because you weren't appropriately treated. ...Read more

What does it mean when my doctor asked for a second urine STD test 10 days after my last STD test? I was treated for Chymadia three weeks ago

That's standard: It's called a "test of cure." It's a standard of care. When we treat an STD such as Chlamydia, we test after therapy to ensure that we have cured you. You should not be sexually active until this has been completed and your infection has been proven to be cured. ...Read more

Pimple on my inner labia. No opening in doctors. Not an STD. Only hurts whenever I press on it or squeeze it. Had for 10 days. How to treat it?

See a Doctor: Please make an appointment with a doctor. Since you have had it for 10 days, it is obviously not urgent.

You are young and may not be able to detect important problems, so it is best to let your doctor help you. Women can get pimples in the labia specially in the summer when it is hot. However, it is difficult to be sure. ...Read more

I have a single underskin pimple under mons pubis area on labia majora area. I have no STDs been tested. How should I treat this or doctor visit?

A few ideas: If you have an isolated infection (acne) in this area you can do a few things. 1) leave it alone, chances are within a few days/week it will go away; 2) if you feel the need (i don't recommend) you can pop it if it has a white head, and clean area throughly with dilute mixture of hydrogen peroxide. I don't think you need a doctor visit unless looks liek something other than acne. ...Read more

I had a STD for 10 months and PID can I still get pregnant? I had them treated right after I found out! My doctor said I was fine when I got a peps.

Some risks...: Pid (pelvic inflammatory disease) carries with it a higher risk of infertility as well as a higher risk of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. But that certainly does not mean that you won't be able to get pregnant and have a healthy baby. Start now by taking the best care of yourself that you possibly can. When ready for a baby, begin your prenatal vitamins. Good luck. Lgromkomd. ...Read more

Can any doc explain why can't our immune systems cure stds/stis?

Can any doc explain why can't our immune systems cure stds/stis?

Actually, they do!: The immune system clears up most STDs. Without treatment, gonorrhea and chlamydia usually are self cured by the immune system after a few weeks or months, but sometimes only after serious complications have occurred. Syphilis usually persists, but not always. HPV and genital warts are cleared by the immune system as well. Herpes is partly controlled by immunity, but not cured. ...Read more
