Individualized: Hi. No one on this site can tell you that information. You need to talk with your doctor or see a specialist who deals with diabetes. The amount of Novolog you take for meals depends meal-by-meal on what your sugar is coming into the meal, what & how much you're going to eat, and your current sensitivity to insulin. You need to be doing frequent glucose monitoring to keep it safe & effective. ...Read more

We all know expensive dental procedures can be, that is why most employees barely over this.Do dentists offer sliding scale or installment options?
Depends: Some do and some don't. You have to ask about that at the time you call the dental office. Many offices offer care credit which allows someone to pay for their dental care over a period of time with no interest. Also dental schools and some clinics offer a sliding scale. You may have to call around a bit... But be careful about things that sound too good to be true. You may get what you pay for. ...Read moreSee 5 more doctor answers
How do university surgeons get paid? Is it just salary or salary + procedures? Is private vs public school any different? Ex usc vs ucla surgeons.
Salary alone.: University-employed professors are salaried and thus have no incentive to perform additional procedures unless they are clearly indicated. My understanding is that some private universities may give year-end bonuses on productivity, but most public ones do not. ...Read more

Should colleges cut tuition costs for med students so their practices won't charge a lot of money to pay back student loans?
Thinking of ways: To cut health care costs is always good. Something, our elected officials should do a better job at. There are problems with your concept mentioned. What if those students don't graduate? What if they decide they don;t like being doctors and stop? Most fees are set by insurance companies and many are low to begin with. If you lower them more, the doctors won't be able to pay for malpractice etc... ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

It : It has to do with medicare laws. It is illegal to charge any patient less than you charge medicare for the same service. Thus, if you accept medicare patients, which most doctors do, you cannot give free care in your office. Even free screenings can get you in trouble. The only solution is to drop medicare form your existing practice--which defeats the purpose of providing care to underserved people--or to establish a separate practice that does not take medicare. However, that separate practice will have its own overhead costs, and if you don't charge for your services you can't cover your out-of-pocket expenses. For the record, I do volunteer my services at a university hospital, but that only saves the money for the hospital--they still have to charge the patients or they would violate the law. And also for the record, though such donations of time are worth a great deal of money, pro bono services are not tax-deductable. ...Read more
Do chain pharmacies bill people without insurance more for the same drug than they charge the insurance companies of people with it? Do they negotiate with insurers this way, the same way doctors do?
Yes: Pharmacies pay different amounts for the drugs based upon order volume the same as any other company would. Pharmacies do offer discounts to insurance companies based upon volume and contracts. All brand-name drugs are massively overpriced based upon their cost of manufacture and research cost. Pharmacies probably profit more from generics then brand name drugs. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
