Most of the time you don't need anesthetic with a regular cleaning with ultrasonic scaling if you have been going to the dentist frequently.
You will need anesthesia if you need a deep cleaning because your gum is already inflamed and the scaler has to go deep under the gum to remove the deep calculus. ...Read more
Doc, how many times, in maximum, can I have scaling for my teeth per year? Is it true that scaling may erode the enamel of my teeth? Thank you.
Different approach..: At your age, unless you already have severe periodontal disease, two thorough professional cleanings per year should be adequate, assuming terrific oral hygiene at home. If you need more than that, you might not be brushing and flossing properly. Some patients require three, others four, but most need two. ...Read more

Derm +or ENT/Otolar,: This is very likely a skin issue like eczema or psoriasis, and it is located in the ears, so it would be a good idea to take him to see a dermatologist for the skin issue or an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) or otolaryngologist due to the fact that it is located in the ears. You need to be doing frequent glucose monitoring to keep it safe & effective. ...Read more

Depends: Some do and some don't. You have to ask about that at the time you call the dental office. Many offices offer care credit which allows someone to pay for their dental care over a period of time with no interest. Also dental schools and some clinics offer a sliding scale. I agree with you that it sounds like you are doing a very good job overall. I am glad that you are so active and can do your own yard work, and feel well.
I am concerned that you are so anemic. A hematocrit of 30.2 is very low. It needs to be determined if that has been worked up, and if that is a stable hematocrit for you.

How do you express extreme pain to a doctor, I use 10, on a scale of 1-10, tell him it's exreme, and he acts like it's a 3 on the scale????
Real Pain: Pain is very individual. It can be difficult to describe how you are feeling especially if you are suffering during the office visit. I'm really sorry to hear how bad your pain is. Keep a "pain diary" and show it to him including the times the pain wakes you from sleep & prevents you from doing things. The notes will help your doctor understand how much this is affecting your life. Pls take care ...Read more
As a doctor, what is your opinion on the BMI scale? Accurate or unreliable? I personally believe body fat percentages are a better reference.
Radiology doctor said I have a "calcification/hyperechogenicity" in my kidney, how serious is it on scale of 1 to 10 and what is the cause of it?
Benign: Without seeing the images and full dictation myself my assistance to you is limited, but things that calcify in the body are usually always benign. Hyperechogenicity means "high echos" which is a way to describe a bright appearance in an ultrasound. It often implies calcium. Calcium in the kidney could be a stone or vascular in nature. Seriousness is a 2. ...Read more

The healthtap bmi scale indicates that I was underweight. But my physician said that my weight is normal. What information should I rely on?
BMI and young people: BMI by itself is not that useful in younger people that are potentially still growing. For kids, we plot BMI against age and sex to get a percentile. HealthTap's BMI calculator is likely inaccurate. If your doc says you're good, you're probably good! But if you want, you can check out this CDC calculator that shows age-and sex-adjusted BMI percentile (http://1.usa. Gov/1NAASb9) ...Read more
Hello. I've recently received horrible pain in my throat and head. I went to the doctors and they ran tests and nothing. On a scale 1-10, pain is 9.9!
Complicated situatio: From the sounds of it, doctors haven't figured out what's going on. Such severe pain could be "central" i.e, neurologic in origin. You seem young enough to where pain shdn't happen by itself (not arthritis, etc.). Did u have any trauma / accident (s) recently? U shd get a complete history & physical, maybe by an ENT or pain specialist. Or consider HealthTap Prime. Keep searching 4 answers! Thanks. ...Read more
