Tried to skip period on birth control. It came anyway, and I've been bleeding for 9 days and it's still heavy. (Recently abroad, idk if relevant)?

Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. ...Read more

I'm on birth control. I take all the active pills and skip the dummies so as to have maybe 4 periods a year. Lately I've been bleeding heavily. Cause?

Pills or other: The most common side effect of extended bc pills is unpredictable, irregular bleeding. It's not entirely clear why it happens, nor exactly clear how to treat or prevent it. Almost everyone has irregular bleeding at least at first with continuous pills. But, there are other serious causes of heavy bleeding--from pregnancy, to infections (stis or other), to polyps, to cysts. See your doctor. ...Read more

I used my birth control pills to skip my period 2 months in a row. I've been breakthrough bleeding for a week. Should I just let it start?

Depends: You can stop your pills and let it start, but since it's the middle of a pack you'll need to use condoms until you get 2 weeks into the next package. Or, you could put up with the breakthrough bleeding but stay on track with your pills and then take the placebo pills at the appropriate time. You may/may not have a normal period then, but you'll be protected if you start your next pack on time. ...Read more

I started my 2nd pack of birth control pills, otho tricycline lo dose without taking the placebo pills so I would skip my period this month. I am almost 2 weeks into this pack and have a yeast infection. I also noticed I am having very light bleeding. Can

So...: Skipping the placebo pills doesn't always work to make you skip a period, and it can cause breakthrough bleeding later. If you've had yeast infections before and are confident that is what you have now, you're fine to use an over the counter yeast treatment. But if you're not sure that's what is, or the treatment doesn't help, go to see doctor for evaluation for other types of vaginal infections. ...Read more

If you miss birth control and start bleeding way before you are supposed to get your period, does it still count as your period?

If you miss birth control and start bleeding way before you are supposed to get your period, does it still count as your period?

Depends: If you stopped the pill and did not start it again, then yes this may be your period. Missing a pill or two and then restarted the birth control, may mean you have a period coming at the end of your pill pack. Anytime you miss/change your pill, it can cause changes in your period. Do your best to stay on the pill every day. It would be a good idea to check a pregnancy test as well. Good luck! ...Read more

Should I be worried the last day of my period was december 22, 2011. About 2weeks later I had a little bit of bleeding for a few days and my nurse told me it couldn't be my period and that it was break through bleed from my birth control because I had miss

A: A home pregnancy test is 97% accurate if taken a week or more after the missed period, so it sounds as though your negative test should be accurate. A blood test can tell if you are pregnant as soon as 7 days after conception and a doctor's urine pregnancy test can tell if you are pregnant around when you next period should come. Often, not having a period can signal that you are not ovulating. Reasons for this include: medications such as birth control pills, stress, excessive dieting, excessive exercise, or a hormone imbalance such as with a thyroid disorder or polycystic ovarian syndrome. If you continue to miss your period or to have an irregular cycle, give your doctor a call. Good luck! ...Read more

I've been taking birth control for about 6 months. If I would skip a day or two I would spot/bleed. Two weeks ago I missed about 3 days and no period.

Your question?: Regardless of the reason you're on birth control pills, if you're not taking them as directed, they aren't going to be particularly effective. If you're sexually active, you should get a pregnancy test. If the test is negative, discuss with your gyno a contraception method that doesn't require you to remember to take a pill every day. There are other options out there. ...Read more

Miss my period because I change birth control. No withdrawal bleed in two weeks. Pregnancy test negative. Now having painful intercourse.

Painful sex: There can be multiple causes. Dryness is one of them. More time to foreplay increases lubrication of the vagina. You can also use water based lubricant. Also decreased estrogen in the blood increase dryness of the vagina. You can get that checked. If it is low estrogen hormone supplement can help. Another cause is vaginismus which to treat is much more difficult. You need to see an expert gyn. ...Read more
