Most cases of shingles can be diagnosed by examination and do not require testing. HIV requires testing and would not be the direct cause of the lesion ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Absolutely, but very: rare. Shingles is essentially always expressed along distribution of peripheral nerve fibers, dermatomes, on one side. Typically: No. Shingles can feel like sciatica. So likely you have shingles first irritating the spinal nerve causing the sciatica and then the lesions appear. Occasionally some people can have post-herpetic neuralgia afterwards and than can be the sciatica like pain without the shingles lesions anymore. Not likely Shingles: I agree with Dr. Minich. Shingles can cause fairly dramatic pain which is followed within a few days by a rash. It usually appears in a particular location on one side of the body. The rash burns intensely, itches & is made up blisters that open up & crust over. A person could also have a fever, chills, headache and generalized aches & pains with fatigue. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Shingles or herpes on scrotum, how to tell difference? It's only on the left side of his scrotum. It's also on the left side of his buttocks.
Probably shingles: Herpes zoster (shingles) sounds much more liikely. Genital herpes typically dosn't involve either buttocks or scrotum, especially both. Singles rash is usually more severe, more pain and more sores turning into black scabs. Lab testing can confirm which virus is responsible, and you also need a prescription for treatment. See your doctor ASAP; treatment most effective the sooner it's started. ...Read more
