2 weeks after having vaginal labor and a tubal ligation, I had unprotected sex with my husband. Is this ok?
Don't do it: If you had unprotected sex and you are bottle feeding this early you may be pregnant by 6 weeks out. After delivery, you may ovulate at least twice before 6 weeks out. In addition, the reason we ask you to abstain for 5-6 weeks is that you are at risk from infection. Sex definitely if done too early can result in serious uterine infection. Questionable: It is "safe" in the sense that you probably won't become pregnant from the experience:-) Could cause some pain and possibly an ascending infection in the uterus. Sex happens frequently but the infection risk is rare. However, I do think the risk benefit ratio falls in favor of abstinence till after 4 weeks minimum and 6 weeks preferably. ...Read more

If you had a tubal: Ligation and it was presumably successful, then had your period and had negative HPT, you should not be pregnant. All those steps were taken to make sure of that. However, you should still protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases as a tubal ligation does not prevent you from contracting one. Of course this depends on your partner too. Depends: It depends on the type of tubal ligation. If you had your tubes cut and tied at the time of a cesarean delivery, it fails about 1 time in 400. If you had a clip placed on the tube it is usually around 1:300. The newer tubal ligations where we put a coil or plug in the tubes are better and fail really rarely. ...Read more

Clipping vs scarring: There are two ways of doing this. The first, more traditional, is to surgically clip the tubes, tying each end so fertilization cannot occur.
