Skin Rash Post Measles Immunisation In Child
My 5yrold developed a rash on her upper arm/shoulder where she received 4 vaccinations 2 days ago: DTaP, IPOL, MMR, Varivax. Ok? Apply hydrocortisone?
What is the incidence of shingles in var. Vaccinated children? 18 month old with shingles outbreak should I be worried about compromised immune system
Lifetime incidence: The lifetime incidence of shingles is relatively less with the vaccine than with wild chickenpox, but occurs with both. I have seen it in a 1yo in a kid with an otherwise normal immune system. As with any issue, surveillance of an individuals response to a variety of infections over many years can reveal an acquired immune problem (not present or evident in childhood). ...Read more
Not really: There are a few kids that receive this vaccine that will breakout with blisters, however this is not the wild chickenpox. Most have fewer than 50 lesions (cpx average is 200) and they can spread the virus, but it is the weakened vaccine virus that they have and can pass. This would give kids that picked it up a chance to have the vaccine protection without a shot. ...Read more

My 1 yr old son developed a rash 10 days after receiving his MMR shot. It covers his whole body including his palms ect. Is this a reaction to vaccine?
Side effect: I would let his doc know during regular hours. This is ocasionally seen with the MMR and reflects a low grade activity of one of the weakened measles viruses in the vaccine. The wild virus would have amplified his symptoms many times. This is a good sign he will develop good long term immunity from the shot. ...Read more

My 1 year old developed a mild case of chicken pox from his varicella vaccination. What should I use for the itching?
Chicken Pox: Good for getting the vaccine- even if you get chicken pox, it is usually much milder! Making your child feel more comfortable is the main thing. Give tepid baths with baking soda or oatmeal powder to soothe itching. Prevent scratching when possible. Keep the skin clean, and cool. Tylenol (acetaminophen) for fever (NO aspirin) Call your doc if there is high fever. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hi, planning pregnancy. Varicella immunity showed equivocal. Had vaccination and chicek pox as a child. Should i repeat the vaccination? Thanks
Developing teeth: There are many things that can affect developing teeth. Physical trauma such as falling, may damage a still-soft developing enamel layer through movement of baby teeth above. Too much Fluoride also may affect developing enamel appearance. High fever also has a similar effect. So you may see some defect/scar on your child's teeth later if s/he had a high fever from chicken pox. ...Read more
No, but : A few kids will develop an atypical vaccine response and have a few blisters come up. The blisters will contain viral particles that represent the weakened vaccine strain. These could be passed on by direct contact to an unvaccinated person. They would likely not have any outward symptoms but would then be immune as if s/he had been vaccinated. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
