In some women: There are many treatments for PMDD. Nuva Ring like oral contraceptives seems to make it better in 1/3 of women, worse in 1/3 of women, and doesn't change it in 1/3 of women. If your friend is in the 1/3 for whom it works, she should be very happy. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Option: Yes, preventing a menstrual cycle can be u helpful for pmdd, especially if you are needing contraception. There are alternatives, including increasing serotonin premenstrually by taking ssri forb 5 days, for example. Maybe, 5-htp amino acid, prementstrually, for 5-7 days can help too. ...Read more

It would be: Necessary to know a lot more about her medically and about her other disorders.Since she will need a psychostimulant most likely for her add, she would be best served by Depakote as a mood stabilizer because it also prevents people on psychostimulants from going into a manic state. While on Depakote she would need to take birth control. Her gynecologist could select birth control that could help with her pms.The Depakote could also relieve chronic headaches.I hope this helps.
