Pleghm In Esapagus During Excersize
It's natural: When running your breathing rate increases, which can be very drying to the airways. Increased phlegm production is a completely natural way to counteract this drying, even though in the winter outside it can be really annoying. My advice (as gross as it is) is to get good at spitting and snot rockets. Or wash your gloves often - that's what I do! Good luck. ...Read more

I had a cold for 8 days now it was worse during 1st to 4 days and I'm coughing with phlegm a green one up until now should I go to a doctor?
Upper resp infxn: Viral upper respiratory infections, known as common cold, can take a while to resolve. Turns out phlegm color doesn't matter & viruses don't respond to antibiotics. It's been said that you'll get better after 7d w/antibiotics vs 1wk w/o antibiotics. Average duration of cough is 18d or almost 3wks so we recommend seeing your doc if short of breath or feeling worse in any way. ...Read more

Do u believe the color of phlegm in the morning is BEST way to tell if you sick or not? Cough on/off during day. White to brown. I smoke. Stuffy nose
Not generally: Color of phlegm can change to green or yellow in the absence of bacterial infection, and brown is generally just associated with the continued smoking. It sounds like you have chronic bronchitis, and continued smoking is going to cause more harm, including emphysema/COPD. You need to stop. Please talk to your doctor about ways to help you quit smoking and improve your cough and your health. ...Read more

During the night, my nose always bungs up and during the day my throat feels like it's full of phlegm, help?
Dependent edema: Some of the nose stuffing up at night may be due to blood backing up when you lay down. This can be exacerbated by allergies (especially to dust mites in the bed or other allergens in the bedroom) or your anatomy (deviated septum, enlarged turbinates). The phlegm in the throat may also be related to post nasal drip from allergies or from reflux of acid into the throat. ...Read more

May need antibiotics: You may have an oral-antral fistula (communication between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus). You refer to a 3 month period with associated signs of infection. This may indicate a need for antibiotic therapy such as oral administration of penicillin-like antibiotics. The quiescence of infection may help the communication to heal and close. If it still persists you may need surgical closure. ...Read more

Exam needed: Abnormal sweating with rather mild activities can be seen with hyperthyroidism or other hormonal imbalances. Swelling of hands and feet raises the question of fluid retention which is often caused by certain hormonal actions. The cough, productive of phlegm, may or may not require a course of antibiotics. See your physician for diagnosis and treatment. Appropriate tests can be ordered. ...Read more

Possibilities...: Possible causes of your symptoms include post-nasal drip leading to sore throat and bronchospasm leading to cough. This may be due to a viral infection, including viral bronchitis. Since this is likely a viral infection, antibiotics would be ineffective. If there is no improvement over the next week, or if symptoms worsen, see your doctor. If you smoke, you need to quit asap! ...Read more

Smoke, old blood: Most common cause of black phlegm would be from smoke such as from cigarette/marijuana smoking. Coal miners used to have black phlegm but now they wear protective gear. Another cause would be old dried up blood from a bad sinus infection or bronchitis infection. Heavily polluted air such as from a recent fire is another possibility. ...Read more
Some infection: If one has a respiratory infection in the nose, sinuses, throat, or the lungs, the damaged cells lining the inside of those areas will ooze some mucus, which is clear but can have some color. If lots of white blood cells, plus dead/dying germs and respiratory lining cells, get mixed in with mucus, one has phlegm. If one drinks adequate water, both phlegm & mucus should get more and looser. ...Read more
