I think (staph) infection in toe. Pus from the toe just squirted into my eye (don't ask :/). Is this dangerous for my eye? What should I do?

Probably OK: The eye is terrific at cleaning itself out. The pus that squirted in was mostly blinked out and the rest flushed out by cleansing tears. Only if you find over the next several days that the eye gets red and irritated should you seek medical attention. I am guessing you flushed your eye out with clean water right after the exposure. ...Read more

I have a staph infection in my finger that won't go away. My eye is bleeding and also out of my bottom. Is that related?

Bleeding: Staph infection in finger is probably separate unless there is some underlying immune deficiency. The blood in eye may be subconjuctival hemorrhage and bottom hemorrhoids. If this persists or recurs obtain lab work at your doctor's office. ...Read more

I been DX with cellulitis and staph infection, the only medicine works is Vancomycin 1.2g.the dr won't listen to me about the meds that work for me.

Stick with vanco!: Your doctor is correct. Past antibiotics that "work for you" are irrelevant. Infection cure depends only on the bacteria causing it and which are antibiotics active against it. Don't mess with this. Staph cellulitis can be very dangerous and you might have MRSA; vancomycin is normal Rx to start. Maybe possible to change later if lab testing shows other antibiotic is active against your own staph. ...Read more

Gotten what I thought was a Staph Infection on my right-middle finger 6x. After I researched realized it could be Herpetic Whitlow. How can I be sure?

Herpes simplex: The next time this occurs you should have the blister base scraped and placed on a slide and examined microscopically and viral cultures can also be obtained. It is less likely to be Staphylococcal, but without seeing and examining it and your medical history it is hard to know. Good luck. ...Read more

I am pretty much 100 percent sure that I have Staph infection and would like second opinion and get on treatment asap ?

Staph infection: I assume you talking about treatment of skin and soft tissue due to MRSA. It depends on how severe the infection is. With small skin abscess I& D is enough. If it is a big boil then it needs I&D and oral antibiotics. In case the infection is more extensive then IV antibiotics must be used. Choice of antibiotics depends on local resistance, labs and culture results and preference of the physician. ...Read more

After a staph infection on my face, should I use lotion?

Check the nose: Using lotion on your face should not be a problem after a staph infection. However, you may want your doctor to check and see if you are colonized by the staph bacteria in your nostrils. This can be done by simply doing a culture from the nostrils. If it is positive, then treating the bacteria there with a topical ointment may help keep you from getting another infection. ...Read more

I have a mild nasal staph infection. Would it be safe for me to get a tattoo.

Very low risk: Staph infection of nose likely due to colonization of staph bacteria in skin, so there is a chance tattoo procedure can cause exposure of the bacteria to blood resulting dissemination of bacteria through blood to different organ. However, that is very rare. Probably you can have tattoo if you accept low risk. Alerternately, you can decolonize the infection with antibiotic soap ...Read more

What to do if I have a staph infection on my legs and face, can caladryl help?

Staph infection: I would recommend seeing a doctor for the best treatment. You most likely need antibiotics - either topical or pills. Caladryl might help with some of the symptoms if the skin is irritated, since it contains calamine and pramoxine. I only see this as 'adjunctive' however, and I believe you need 'real' treatment. Hopefully your doc can guide you. ID docs are expert at treating Staph infections. ...Read more

A year ago, i was treated for a klebsiella sinus infection, now i've been diagnosed with a frontal sinus staph infection. Is this common/normal?

No: This is quite unusual. Either there is something amiss with your immune system, you have had chronic problems with your sinuses, have been treated with too many antibiotics, or have some other unusual problem. Sinus infections, when bacterial, are commonly due to the normal flora of the nasopharynx (pneumococci, strep, hemophilus, and so on). ...Read more
