Neck Exercises After Cervical Surgery
Activity after fused: Given that rods were removed, i must assume that the fusion is solid. Therefore, there are really no restrictions for you in a solidly fused lumbar spine. Core exercises like pilates/piyo/yoga are great (your flexibility will be limited, obviously). Aerobic exercises as tolerated and continue to progress as tolerated. ...Read more
Common procedure: An anterior cervical discectomy and fusion with instrumentation is a common procedure to address cervical disc herniations, degenerative spondylosis and occasional to treat instability from trauma. A fusion will eliminate the motion at the involved joint segments. Most patients do well. For very good information and videos, check out spine-health.Com. ...Read more
McKenzie Exercises: Pt for back and neck conditions involve stretching, strengthening, and some range of motion. These exercises start very gently, and then are progressed by a certified pt based upon patient response. All patients are different, so the exact exercises differ as does the progress. Use of heat, rubs, electrical devices and ultrasound is not a long-term answer. No pain no gain to a point. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Varies: It depends completely on the nature of the surgery performed. Some of the minimally invasive surgeries we perform have little or no down time. Other, much more extensive surgeries, may have recovery times that extend several months. Thank you for your question. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Cervical hnp diagnosed.Arm shoulder neck pain persist even after various nonsurgical management for a year.Is surgery thr only option?Or stick w nonop
Depends: If a fusion was done, it can take 12 weeks for enough bone healing to allow full activity. If the ruptured portion was removed without fusion, there is usually enough healing after one month. Symptoms in both cases usually improve well before this. However, severe long standing symptoms may take longer. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Are headaches after undergoing a anterior cervical discectomy plus spinal fusion significant or common?
They can be: Headaches are tricky, sometimes they are primarily caused by cervical spine problems, often times they are exacerbated by them, but it is difficult to predict whether surgery will ever help them, except in the case of an obvious c34 disc and radiculopathy with occipital nerve type pain which is mechanical. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

No! Once healed!: No-you are simply doing the equivalent of "cracking your knuckles"- it feels good or it just becomes a habit. By "cracking" or mobilizing the small joints of your spine(facet joints) it causes a temporary reflexive relaxation of the surrounding muscles. This is what an osteopath or chiropractor will attempt to achieve with manipulation. You are doing your own! you are not causing any arthritis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

After a c5/c6 cervical posterior fora monotony 6 weeks post op i still get shoulder & arm pain .Will this improve?
Hard to say: It depends on the cause, i would certainly let your surgeon know. Something's in the spine just may take longer to get better than 6 weeks, other times people come to see me and come to find out they still have some degree of nerve impingment or they have had a complication. Thank you for your question. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can my neck/arm pain be a result of bankart repair shoulder surgery 2yrs ago? nerve pain from neck down left arm, started 6 months after surgery
Probably not: If you had a bankart repair and did well for 6 months and started having neck pain running down your left arm, it is more likely coming from a "pinched nerve" in your neck. Bankart repairs are done primarily for instability, so if you have not developed recurrent instability, it is probably not your shoulder, also shoulder problems do not typically cause pain running down the arm. Be seen! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Does cervical spine or lumbar spine surgery have the best prognosis and ease of surgery? Is artificial disc replacement or fusion surgery best for treating cervical spondylosis?
Many variations: Anterior or posterior, discectomy, decompression, or fusion. All affect recovery rates. For fusions, anterior cervical tends to be an easier recovery than lumbar. Cervical adr is quite comparable to fusion for short and mid-term outcomes. Longer term studies may show better long-term results than fusion, but we currently don't have enough data. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
