IUD removal: If the IUD was pushed into the cervical canal, bleeding and pain would occur. The IUD may also have not prevented a pregnancy, which might account for the persistent bleeding (10 days). If pregnant, it could be in your tube, so get a serum HCG test to make sure about possible pregnancy. If negative, stop the pills and start a new package five days later. If I have bleeding during sex, could I be pregnant? Been trying for months now after mirena (levonorgestrel) taken out in Feb. Some symptoms, but Neg each month late.

Does not: Sound like you are pregnant. Bleeding after sex has nothing to do with pregnancy. It usually has to do with rough sex with micro tears. It takes the average couple 6 months to conceive and usually. Bit longer after a progesterone IUD has been removed so you are within normal and not showing signs of infertility. Got my mirena (levonorgestrel) put in 3 months ago and im still bleeding sometimes with a oderless brown discharge. No cramping is this normal?

Yes, it likely is: ~95% of Mirena (levonorgestrel) users will note a decrease in their duration and/or amount of menstrual blood flow, and many will even stop getting their period (which is normal). However, these changes can take about 3-6 months to occur. Prior to this, it is not unusual to have an increase in the amount, duration or frequency of your periods. Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD for 7 months. NO bleeding. 2 days ago VERY heavy bleed (still bleeding) & thrush like symptoms. Possible cause/s? Normal or concern?

It is common to have: irregular bleeding in the first 3 months, sometimes heavy. However once the Mirena (levonorgestrel) has been assimilated periods become much lighter, often times disappearing altogether. This is a desirable side effect for most women. However, if you start to have menstrual flow again and it continues like a torrent for a month or 2, it is possible that your Mirena (levonorgestrel) has been dislodged. Very low likelihood but ...Read more

Distinct change: I like to see my patients for an exam when they report a distinct change in their bleeding patterns. Absent or light periods is the normal. If this changes then I like to do a quick exam to make sure it is in the proper location. I also test for chlamydia and other infections if the patient has a new partner. ...Read more
