Exactly how does rogaine (minoxidil) work to cause hair growth?

Exactly how does rogaine (minoxidil) work to cause hair growth?

Two ways: Minoxidil makes hair follicles wider so your hair is thicker. It also increases the growth phase of your hair so that you grow longer hair and more strands of hair. Unfortunately, this isn't a permanent one time only treatment. You need to continue using Minoxidil to maintain your hair growth.

How long to use minoxidil for woman?

1 year: I always have men and woman use rogaine (minoxidil) for 1 year. That way we can see how much improvement occurs.

26 years old I have androgentic alopecia my dermatologist prescribe me minoxidil 5%, propecia, (finasteride) can it stop and regrow my hair? Any side effect of it?

Pattern hair loss: Both Minoxidil and Propecia (finasteride) are very helpful in keeping the hair you still have. In 30-35% of men, there is significant hair regrowth. Most men get some regrowth. Side effects of Minoxidil are mostly local, such as irritation of scalp. Propecia (finasteride) blocks 5 Alpha reductase, enzyme that converts testosterone to dht. It may potentially but uncommonly have systemic side effects. Talk to your doctor.

I don't like how ROGAINE (minoxidil) has to be used forever to maintain new hair growth. BIOTIN really made my thinning hair grow, after yrs not growing. It works?

I don't like how ROGAINE (minoxidil) has to be used forever to maintain new hair growth. BIOTIN really made my thinning hair grow, after yrs not growing. It works?

Hair grows in cycles: Hair grows in a cycle. There is nothing you can apply now that will maintain efficacy several cycles from now. I am a fan of biotin, and always use it as an adjunct to treatment for thinning hair. I typically recommend a dose of 3000 mcg per day to see benefit in hair growth. If you don't want to use minoxidil, I have developed a product called ReTress that also helps. Find it at sephora. Com.

Anyone know if it's safe to use minoxidil?

Yes, with caution: The real question is "is it safe to not take minoxidil" which is a powerful anti hypertensive agent. The drug can cause low pressure, edema, pericardial and pleural effusions. It causes hair growth which may be unwanted it must be used with a powerful diuretic and a beta blocker. If it is used on the skin for hair growth these side effects are uncommon and the additional medications not needed.

Is it dangerous for a baby to touch minoxidil topical solution? How else it affects the baby other than itching/rashes?

Is it dangerous for a baby to touch minoxidil topical solution? How else it affects the baby other than itching/rashes?

Probably not.: It depends upon whether (topical) Minoxidil would penetrate baby's skin. 'touch', you mean by hands or body? I doubt such small amount of Minoxidil would have hypotensive effect or 'hair growing' consequence. Anyway, irritation is more likely.

Having drastic hair loss for the past 3 yrs my TSH T3 (liothyronine) levels are normal. Currently using minoxidil 5% for the past 6 months but no visible improvemen?

Hair Loss: You may have a condition called telogen effluvium where your hair goes into a shedding phase. B12 shots once a month helps this condition. See your dermatologist for shots and to make sure of the diagnosis.

What can be the side effects of minoxidil?

Few: If you have not heart problems it should be safe. Your can be irritaed by the mens liquid but this can solved by using the foam. If women use the men's form then it is possible to get excesss hair on your face.

How long will shedding last when using minoxidil. I heard many different things. Is it possible that it won't stop?

Should stop: Initially, rogaine (minoxidil) can cause increased shedding. However, the shedding should stop after 2-4 weeks and stabilize and hopefully new hair will grow, thereafter.

Is application of 2% topical minoxidil (rogaine) twice daily as effective as application of 5% minoxidil once daily (half life of minoxidil being 22hr?

Is application of 2% topical minoxidil (rogaine) twice daily as effective as application of 5% minoxidil once daily (half life of minoxidil being 22hr?

Probably yes: Theoretically it can work as well and may be better, but each individual has different tolerance and side effects, I don't see any harm in trying for a short while and see how you tolerate. Watch for blood pressure and local hypersensitivity reactions of your scalp skin. Have a follow up with your doctor as well.

Hair Loss: Minoxidil can cause hair loss in some patients. What you need is a scalp biopsy to determine the type of hair loss you have as in male pattern hair loss which is genetic or telogen effluvium (te) which is hair loss caused by increased shedding. Male pattern hair loss is treated with Propecia (finasteride) which is an oral prescription medication. Te is treated with B12 injections?

It's been more than 4 years that I lose my hair. I tried many treatments like minoxidil, viviscal.... Now the hair loss is dramatic! What can I do?

It's been more than 4 years that I lose my hair. I tried many treatments like minoxidil, viviscal.... Now the hair loss is dramatic! What can I do?

Hair loss: Finasteride pills can effectively delay male pattern hair loss. They must be prescribed and monitored by your doctor. They will hold your hair in for many years, likely for as long as you are taking them. However if you stop them your hair will fall out in a relatively short time to where it would have been if you had never been on them. Daily shampoo for oily scalp.
