Menstruation (Overview)

The menstrual cycle begins with the shedding of the uterine lining, resulting in bleeding from the vagina. A few weeks later, one ovary releases an egg and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Pregnancy can occur at this stage if sperm fertilizes the egg. If the egg is not fertilized, the egg will leave your body and menstrual bleeding begins again.

Several possibilitys: 23 yo with no bc pills reported and first time for menstrual irregularity. This may be related to problems with the ovaries no longer functioning correctly; or it maybe you have a polyp in the uterus or 'fibroids' or less likely other tumors in the pelvis. Thyroid dysfunction or blood disorders must be included in the possible causes. Most commonly, it is hormonal irregularity. So see md soon. Read more

I just had my menstruation last July 11 to july 19, but now I have my menstruation again. Sometimes, I'm having menstruation twice in a month?

Cycle: Normal cycle length, from first day of bleeding to next first day of bleeding ranges from 21-32 days. Having shorter cycles may indicate that you are not ovulating. Cycle regulation with hormones is a common way to manage if not trying to conceive. If trying, seeing a reproductive endocrinologist would be most helpful. Read more

I'm 34/F I've noticed that in the past month I have gained weight. My habits haven't changed. Could something be wrong? It's not due to menstruation.

I'm 34/F I've noticed that in the past month I have gained weight. My habits haven't changed. Could something be wrong? It's not due to menstruation.

Age food & exercise: As humans approach middle age (welcome to the club!), our metabolisms slow down. So even with the same food intake and the same amount of activity (which I assume has not changed because your "habits haven't changed") you can gain weight. If diabetes, obesity, or other medical problems run in your family, they could be starting to come into play. You actually need MORE exercise as u age, not less! Read more

I'm not sure, but should women consume less iron in their daily diet due to menstruation?

More: Women need more iron in their diet when they menstruate becuase iron in the blood is lost thru menstruation. A diet supplement with 325 mg of iron sulfate is a good idea. Have your dr do a complete blood count and iron profile to determine your iron status. If low, he may suggest iron supplementation.
Meat (red) is a good source of iron. Read more

Sorry: Sorry to answer your question with more questions but: did you have your prolactin level tested and what was it? If it was elevated and causing suppression of ovulation, yes, you will likely begin to ovulate after discontinuation of the medication but it may take a few weeks. Read more
