Will an MRI without contrast show the beginning signs of MS? Symptoms: slurred speech, memory problems, unsteady gait, confusion, etc.

Will an MRI without contrast show the beginning signs of MS?
Symptoms: slurred speech, memory problems, unsteady gait, confusion, etc.

Complex question: There are 3 types of MRI used to diagnose MS: T1-weighted, T-2 weighted, and FLAIR. No single test is used to diagnose MS, generally a combination of tests over time is needed to get a definitive diagnosis. You need to consult a neurologist experienced with MS and let him or her guide you. Do you have a family history of this disease? Although chronic, progression can be very slow. Good luck! ...Read more

I have been diganosed with both trigeminal neralgia and occipital neuralgia. I also have some memory problems and muscle spasms . Could I have ms?

Challenging?: You seem to have very complex issues, and i would certainly wonder about an underlying unitary diagnosis. Ms could cause fatigue, memory loss, and trigeminal neuralgia, but usually not occipital neuralgia. Maybe MRI of brain and spinal cord could illuminate the picture. Might also want to check for lupus, lyme disease, and even hiv. Perhaps get full evaluation at a local medical school. ...Read more

Could my bed/mattress topper be causing my foggy thinking and poor memory? Sleep isn't the problem, I'm thinking more like a chemical in the mattress.

Doubtful: I'm not aware of any chemicals in mattresses. Your symptoms are more likely to be medication or substance induced or some sort of illness. To set your mind at ease I suggest that you buy a new, high quality mattress cover. If your symptoms persist then you should see your physician. ...Read more

I am studying at college and i always have problems staying focused and have very poor memory, which seems to have deteriorated since i left school.

Poor focus deteriora: If the onset was present before 7 years of age, then it is possibly adhd, but with your indication that the deterioration is more recent, your memory needs to be evaluated, and see your doctor. A common cause of slight memory loss, and poor focus with onset in your 20's is possibly depression or anxiety also. ...Read more
