Which is worse corn syrup or maltodextrin?

Which is worse corn syrup or maltodextrin?

Corn syrup?: Please define what you mean by worse. Then I can better answer this. Maltodextrin is a polysaccharide that is used as a food additive. It is produced from starch by partial hydrolysis and is usually found as a white hygroscopic spray-dried powder.[1] Maltodextrin is easily digestible, & absorbed as rapidly as glucose & might be either moderately sweet or almost flavorless. So same it appears same ...Read more

I would like to know definitively, whether or not, Maltodextrin from corn and High Fructose Corn Syrup are essentially the same ?

I would like to know definitively, whether or not, Maltodextrin from corn and High Fructose Corn Syrup are essentially the same ?

Not.: Both may be made from corn (MD is also made from wheat), but HFCS is first and foremost a sweetener whereas MD is often used for its texture or thickening rather than sweetening properties. HFCS is a physical mixture of fructose and glucose whereas MD is a polysaccharide of glucose - usually 3-17 units long. Both HFCS and MD contain a large number of calories. ...Read more

Supplements: The FDA does not investigate or evaluate most supplements and I doubt most physicians would have any experience with what you're taking. The good diet and proper exercise programs appear fine. You sound quite healthy and shouldn't need any supplements. Protein overload can harm kidneys. ...Read more

I have a clear protein drink thats orange in color, but it has 5g of digestive resistant maltodextrin as one of the ingredients, is this acceptable?

I have a clear protein drink thats orange in color, but it has 5g of digestive resistant maltodextrin as one of the ingredients, is this acceptable?

You're the judge: While i can't speak for canadian laws, in the sates, there is no third party oversight regarding dietary supplements such as protein shakes. Therefore, you serve as your own guinea pig to determine whether any given supplement is tolerable for you or not. Undigested sugars may lead to diarrhea or flatulence but again, this doesn't happen in everyone. You'll find out if you can tolerate it or not. ...Read more

I'm incredibly sensitive to any artificial sweetener (maltodextrin, erythritol, etc). Which kinds are the LEAST laxative causing? Which are the worst?

I'm incredibly sensitive to any artificial sweetener (maltodextrin, erythritol, etc). Which kinds are the LEAST laxative causing? Which are the worst?

Non absorbable sugar: A sugar-like sweetener that is not absorbed can be an "osmotic laxative" because it pulls water with it into the bowels. For any noticeable effect, it needs to be consumed in large quantities (many teaspoons/day). This can happen with Xylitol. Aspartame, saccharin, Stevia, and sucralose do not have this effect. ...Read more

Hi doctors, I am a 20 year old male with hypertension. Am i able to consume creatine, maltodextrin and protein for gym purposes?

By all means: I'm glad you're working out and i wish you the best. Cardio will also help maintain your health. Hopefully your hypertension is being treated properly. Perhaps a curble cause of your hypertension may be discovered -- renal artery stenosis from a minor birth defect is often missed in young, otherwise-fit hypertensives. ...Read more

Am I dying?

We all are: A 3-word question with no details... well, life is short on Earth, regardless of whether a person lives 3 days, 3000 days, or 30,000 days. It is not length of one's life that matters, but the quality of the life lived. The goal is not to live a long life, but to live a good life.
