Functional orthodontists or traditional orthodontists, what to do?

Functional orthodontists or traditional orthodontists, what to do?

That depends: That depends on the problem that needs to be corrected. If the problem is a growth issue then functional orthodontics may help. If it is a tooth position problem then traditional orthodontics is needed. Some malocclusions may even require a combined approach. Functional appliances require more patient cooperation then traditional braces and may not be suitable for some children. ...Read more

Wear a 2 unit nesbit. Will abutted teeth move out of position when near future involves gum grafting of an abutted tooth (cannot wear nesbit)?

I wear a loop monitor looking for AFib. I had palpitations BP 113/07 178 bpm. Dr recommends a wire to the rt ventricle to zap a faulty beat. Is ok?

Suppose so.: If you have been seeing an electrophysiologist and he says you need ablation he is probably correct. A HR of 178 bpm is pretty fast for your age. You should be asking him for a better explanation of why this should be done. ...Read more

Best imaging study to evaluate the integrity, position, and functionality of a prosthetic hip replacement, metal ball on plastic cup; how often p. Op?

See answer: Plain radiography and clinical correlation are the best starting point. Depending on the software available, either ct or MRI with metal artifact reduction software may be beneficial. Spect-ct has shown benefit in fusing both anatomic and physiologic data – ask your radiologists and orthopedists about their experience with these modalities and the capability at your institution. ...Read more

Have had 3 vulvar biopsies, 1st time was punch biopsy the others were not (special tool to carve out biopsy freehand + stitches) what's thedifference?

Have had 3 vulvar biopsies, 1st time was punch biopsy the others were not (special tool to carve out biopsy freehand + stitches) what's thedifference?

Size and location...: A punch for doing punch biopsies has a round cutting surface. They come in different sizes from 1mm to 6mm and up. Its a quick way to take a vulvar biopsy. But your doc can also use a scalpel or a pair of scissors to take a biopsy. It really depends where the problem is and what is best for the circumstances. A scalpel and stitches is usually used for larger biopsies. Best wishes! ...Read more

6wks pst op bunion removed & screw in big toe, wires in 2 toes. Plaster & wires removed 2 days ago. The big toe is sticking up is this normal?

6wks pst op bunion removed & screw in big toe, wires in 2 toes. Plaster & wires removed 2 days ago. The big toe is sticking up is this normal?

Have it evaluated.: The position of the big toe immediately following cast, pin, and bandage removal is not necessarily reflect its final position after you have regained strength and mobility following the postoperative and rehabilitation period. For some procedures, the big toe may be purposely fused in a slightly elevated position and you may not be use to that. Consult with your surgeon. ...Read more

Will metal spacers and braces with a wire help expand my narrow palate?

Will metal spacers and braces with a wire help expand my narrow palate?

Absolutely not: Spacers make room between teeth for placement of metal bands on back teeth. Braces ; wires align teeth. At 37 the 2 halves of your upper jaw have fused to each other ; to the other bones in your skull. Palatial expansion therefore mandates an expansion appliance + jaw surgery. See a qualified orthodontic specialist and inquire about "sarp.". ...Read more

What is the best 'appliance' or tool to use to floss with a retaining wire in place? (permanent wire behind teeth after the removal of braces)

What is the best 'appliance' or tool to use to floss with a retaining wire in place? (permanent wire behind teeth after the removal of braces)

Threader: The floss threader is the best. I recommend the one by butler. It is a loop with a straight piece sticking out. Looks like fishing line. You put the floss through the loop and thread the straight end of the threader under the teeth and wire and pull it through with the floss. Another good technique is the "soft piks" or "go betweens "(small). Water pic is very helpful. Also, ultrafloss is good. ...Read more

How soon after patella fracture recommend return to work s/p fx on 11/27/13. Ortho appt on12/10/13. Wc insisting. Floor nurse secure lock down unit.
