"Pruritis Ani": There are many causes. Pinworms, hemorrhoids, yeast infections, poor hygiene, sexual practices, medications, lotions, creams and other topicals applied to the area may cause itching. What cream or ointment should I use on an itchy anus? My anus itches like crazy and i don't know why. I don't know weather to use Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or some other treatment.
Most often: Anal itching in an adult is from either excess caffeine/beer or excess moisture or possibly yeast infection. I do not use any ointments for anal itching. Cut out the caffeine and beer and use plain cornstarch powder liberally and frequently to your bottom. If itching is waking from sleep, caffeine is the most likely culprit.
