Was served raw chicken at a restaurant. Didn't realize it until I consumed an extremely raw piece. What are the chances of getting sick? What to do?

It's pretty low: but pretty obvious if you get salmonella. Pepto-bismal has some mild effects. Doubtful if antibiotics can be preventative (the chicken was already eating enough of those for the both of you!!!). more detailed info can be found by clicking on the lings ta the bottom of www.nerdpocalypse.net and directly coonecting with me. ...Read more

I understand that the harmful form of ecoli that killed my mom needs contaminated food to survive. How long does it live without it? Months? Years?

Is it safe to eat salmon sushi? I've recently heard about the possible rusk of getting tapeworm from if?

Is it safe to eat salmon sushi? I've recently heard about the possible rusk of getting tapeworm from if?

Rare, preventable: Unlike most fish eaten raw as sushi or sashimi, salmon can contain the fish tapeworm and other parasites. However, these are killed by freezing, and in the US, salmon intended to be eaten raw is required by law to be frozen first. So the actual risk is very low. However, this may not be the case in all countries, and I would recommend avoiding raw salmon if uncertain of local laws. ...Read more

What are the chances of chlamydia from eating a girl out? I know its extremely rare for someone to catch HIV this way. What about with chlamydia?

What are the chances of chlamydia from eating a girl out? I know its extremely rare for someone to catch HIV this way. What about with chlamydia?

Oral Sex and STDs: It is very unlikely for the partner performing oral sex on a female to get infected with chlamydia. Chlamydia is more of a infection of the cervix, not the labia or clitoris and thus very low risk of transmission with simple oral sex. . Now, the same does not go the other way. A partner performing oral sex on an infected penis is at high risk for getting chlamydia. ...Read more

Is calamari a shellfish? Also if i wanted to eat fried calamari should I worry about the transfer from the oil that it is cooked in?

Is calamari a shellfish? Also if i wanted to eat fried calamari should I worry about the transfer from the oil that it is cooked in?

Calamari = shellfish: Shellfish refers to mollusks and crustaceans. Calamari is squid, a member of the mollusk family along with snails, and bivalves (scallops, clams, oysters, mussels). Allergy to mollusks is generally mediated by the protein tropomyosin which is also found in crustaceans: shrimp, crab, crayfish and lobster. The oil may be ok, but i would not bet on it. ...Read more

Stop googling!: yes ringworm spreads from animals to humans. It's hard to give the odds not knowing your contact with your rabbit but I wouldn't be surprised. Just watch for skin changes and likely can start with otc treatment if caught early. ...Read more

How bad is Zika in Brazil? I was supposed to go next month. Is it so bad that the vast majority of mosquitoes are infected? Or not quite that bad?

Well seems not good: There have been many reports of infection and unfortunately will then be brought into this country. Already reported as such. If you are pregnant would not go. But even without a pregnancy the virus seems to be transmitted sexually. So take great care ...Read more

How long does Salmonella live in the refrigerator? It's been a year since we defrosted a turkey. I hoone.. Is it dead? Salmonella scares me.

How long does Salmonella live in the refrigerator? It's been a year since we defrosted a turkey. I hoone.. Is it dead? Salmonella scares me.

It's not worth it...: The turkey is dead. The Salmonella and other bacteria... who knows? There's a reason for cleaning out refrigerators every month, and throwing out old stuff. Fresh poultry can be at 1-40 degrees only a few days. In the deep freeze, below 0 degrees, maybe 6-12 months. A raw turkey, sitting in the fridge for a whole year... put it in the trash on trash day (with any other old stuff from the fridge). ...Read more

I have HPV. Is it transmitted to my kids if I'm pregnant in the future? Is it harmful? How can I prevent it from transmitting if so? Help!

Depends: The genital wart HPV can be passed during the birthing process if the mom is shedding virus. They may then show up on the babies genitals in their first 2+/- years and rarely may be found on the babies vocal cords. C section delivery prior to ruptured membranes would eliminate the possibility, but is rarely needed as most are not shedding continuously. ...Read more

Is it safe for someone who has a bad case of scabies to be cooking at a restaurant? I don't want those bugs!

Scabies: Scabies mites are spread by direct bodily contact with a person, and more unlikely from wearing clothing or sitting on an infected couch. Treating with medication may kill the mite before the rash and itching are gone. Though spread in a restaurant setting is almost impossible, respect your patrons by making sure you are treated and your clothing disinfected before going back to work. ...Read more
