NO! : No! remember doctors can not diagnose over the phone or internet, but is the 'stye' you describe a painful bump in your eyelid? --if so the treatment is not a steroid (so no hydrocortisone) a stye is a 'blocked gland' in your eyelid (it's a mechanical problem) the general treatment is: -warm compressess -anti-biotic eye drop or ointment and if not improved : a small surgical procedure by an ophthomologist hope you're better soon. ...Read more

Does cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) cream help poison ivy?

Does cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) cream help poison ivy?

Probably so: Cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) is a combination of a steroid and a topical antibiotic. The steroid is probably the component that is doing the most for your reaction. I would avoid the topical antibiotic unless there is truly a bacterial infection that needs to be treated. The antibiotic portion carries the risk of an allergic reaction and can confound the clinical picture. ...Read more

I have 3 creams which one is best for eczema? 1 Nystatin ointment 2 clotrimazole and betamethason dipropionate cream 3 aloe vesta anti fungal ointmen

Betamethasone: These medicines are for fungus; the clotrimazole/betamethasone mixture will help do to the steroid component, but it should never be applied to areas of thin skin (axillae, groin, face). Would bacitracin zinc and polymyxin b sulfate opthalmic ointment work for a style?

Moist warm compress: 24 y/o female asks if bacitracin zinc and polymyxin b sulfate ophthalmic ointment work for eye stye? Not recommended. The best management/ treatment for stye is to apply warm compress/ moist warm clean wash cloth on the affected eye for 5 to 10 minutes 2 or 3 times a day and at bed time. This usually helps to unblock the gland (sweat or oil) which blockage caused the stye in the first instance. ...Read more

Is polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) or calendula ointment better?

Is polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) or calendula ointment better?

For what problem?: Without knowing what you're treating, it's hard to say which would be "better." polysporin (bacitracin and polymyxin) contains synthetic antibiotics, Bacitracin and polymyxin. Calendula ointment is from the marigold plant, calendula officinalis. It's been traditionally used in minor skin wounds: skin infections, burns, bee stings, sunburn, warts, etc. Most research comes from animal studies. http://tinyurl.com/lapg2kq. ...Read more
