I agree: See a travel or wilderness specialist. Diamox (acetazolamide) is a sulfa medication. If you have severe sulfa allergy the next appropriate medications would be a form of Prednisone and/or a high dose of Motrin (if appropriate)--which has recently been shown to be helpful as well. ...Read more

Out of fosinopril, felodipine, oxenoprolol, telmisartan, amiloride, hydrochlorothiazide, which is most effective?

Depends: Physicians will choose different medicines for BP depending on the clinical situation and other accompanying problems:
Fosinopril is an ACE inhibitor
Felodipine is a Calcium channel blocker
Amiloride and HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) are mild diuretics
Telmisartan is an ARB
....prolol is a beta blocker
All of them are good depending on the circumstances ...Read more

Usually within days: Within a few days you should start to see an effect -- but, hctz, hydrochlorothiazide, is not a strong drug. Your best way to lower BP is to not exceed 1500 mg of salt per day and to exercise 30 minutes daily assuming your doctor is ok with these recommendations. ...Read more

See below: Your doctor should get three readings on seperate days to see if it truly increased. If it is increased then the cause for a secondary hypertension (correctable mostly) should be identified. Lifestyle modification with wt loss, dash diet, low na diet, increased physical activity should be instituted first. Finally start with 1-2 meds. ...Read more

Promethazine: Promethazine is a drug that is used to manage common cold, allergic reactions and is sometimes combined with other drugs, such as dextromethorphan, to suppress cough (see the link below). It belongs to a class of drugs known as antihistaminics. Promethazine has many side effects and several important drug-drug interactions. One important side effect is drowsiness, which can become significant at higher doses. Operating machinery or driving may become dangerous while taking promethazine. Overdose of Promethazine could result in respiratory arrest and death. Other sedatives such as alcohol, narcotics, tricyclic antidepressants enhance the sedating properties of promethazine. Administration of Promethazine has been associated with reported cholestatic jaundice. Edema (swelling) has also been associated with promethazine. From your description it appears that you may be having potentially serious side effects of this medication. You should stop taking it and see a doctor. ...Read more
