How can I help my child live a normal life with type I diabetes?

How can I help my child live a normal life with type I diabetes?

Love: Treat them as normal kids with unique needs. Find them a caring competent pediatrician and endocrinologist. Listen, assess, let them know your limits, let them figure out answers on their own for the most part, but always with appropriate limitations. Don't spoil them or let them develop an attitude of feeling entitled. Sound like good advice for any parent? It is. ...Read more

I'm a mum. Child lives with dad. I attempted suicide, lost a leg and having issues. During family mediation, Dad and I agreed I would cut off from daughter. How can I help daughter cope with this?

Continue Therapy: The best thing you can do for your daughter is to work hard on getting yourself well. Since you are required, for now, to not interact with your daughter, it's best to honor that agreement and let Dad give her a stable daily home environment. Once you are in a place, mentally and physically, of health, peace and stability, you can request a change in your interactions with your daughter. ...Read more

Hi,Im Niru and recently I've diagnosed with spondylolithesis L5/S1,,I just want to know how bad is my condition?

It's quite common: and how "bad" it is depends entirely on your symptoms and the degree of spondylolisthesis. You should consult with the doctor who ordered the study to determine what treatment may be indicated. For almost any mechanical back pain, keeping up an exercise regimen (as tolerated) is important. Good luck! ...Read more

If you get huntington's dieseas when you are a teen. What is your life expectancy? Well, I am a teen and i just want to know that if i get huntington's disease then how much longer will i live. And how well will i function in life.

If you get huntington's dieseas when you are a teen. What is your life expectancy? Well, I am a teen and i just want to know that if i get huntington's disease then how much longer will i live. And how well will i function in life.

Why do you ask?: You're at risk for Huntington's if and only if it's affected one of your ancestors. If this applies to you, I would urge you to talk with an appropriate physician about getting tested. The age of onset and likely time of death is usually a little sooner in each generation. You need to plan your life and you need the right information. ...Read more

My friend had diabetes. I always hear people asking him to go on a diet. How diet helps people with diabetes?

My friend had diabetes. I always hear people asking him to go on a diet. How diet helps people with diabetes?

Two ways: For someone with type 2 diabetes, diet helps in two ways. First any diet that leads to weight loss will make a person more sensitive to Insulin so that lower amounts of Insulin and/or medications will control their sugars more easily. Secondly, limiting the amount of sugar and starch (that breaks down to sugar) at a meal, keeps the sugar from spiking up after a meal. ...Read more

How much do genetics matter for type 2 diabetes? My grandfather was diagnosed with diabetes at 63, and i'm worried i may get it in the future also.

How much do genetics matter for type 2 diabetes? My grandfather was diagnosed with diabetes at 63, and i'm worried i may get it in the future also.

Nature vs nurture: Genetics matter. But everyone has genes that increase risk of something. If your biggest risk is t2dm in your 60's, consider yourself much better off than a lot of people. The genetics of diabetes is complex. Not one gene but many genes. You may/may not be at risk. Either way, a healthy lifestyle (exercise, normal body weight, healthy diet) will go a long way to prevent diabetes later on. ...Read more

Their social difficulties do cause difficulties, but they manage to find understanding spouses and employment where they can flourish. ...Read more

Me and my girlfriend want to have a baby, i'm also a girl. We wanna have a biological child together. How can we go about that? Can I have her eggs put into mine and thats how it would happen? I need as much detail as possible. Thank you

Not going to happen: Dependable technology to support such a process is not available. At the current time, you need to involve a male, through blind donation or whatever, and decide which of you would carry the child. There are legal hassles involved but it happens often enough that this is certainly doable.Give it another few years and it may be possible. ...Read more

I want to know how diabet influence the life of my girlfriend ( type 1)... My kids will have diabet? She will get another illness because of diabet?

Depends on variables: Depending on the level of control achieved by the patient, a long productive life and childbearing is possible. Offspring would have ~4-8% risk of type 1, but could have risks of birth defects or pregnancy related problems, again related to the level of control. A discussion with a geneticist would be helpful as both parents have potential problems when pregnancy outcome is involved. ...Read more

If I can encourage my mom to eat better and exercise more, can we cure her diabetes? I heard u can reverse it from a friend on Facebook

It depends...: Type 1 diabetes can not be cured but some cases of Type 2 can; this is not easy but with major dietary changes, exercise and weight loss many cases of Type 2 have been reversed. Gabriel Cousens MD has found that a raw vegan diet usually has dramatic benefits- see http://bit.ly/14OzP4J & http://bit.ly/SzjnR2 & http://bit.ly/1dlmd23 for details. For this to work, your mom must be motivated!!! ...Read more
