Is high cholesterol a symptom or a condition?

Is high cholesterol a symptom or a condition?

Condition: A symptom is something that you feel, such as pain, fatigue or anxiety. One can not tell if one has high cholesterol without a test (though high cholesterol may contribute to developing conditions that result in symptoms), so it is a condition. However, high cholesterol may not be as big a problem as most docs believe. See http://www. Spacedoc. Com/cholesterol_articles and my comment for more info. ...Read more

How can I believe my diagnosis of high cholesterol? I eat a healthier diet than anybody I know!

Genes: Much of pop and government claims about diet in general and its effects on cholesterol are at best overstatements. A great number of factors contribute both to overall atherosclerosis risk and to cholesterol level, and the one that you can do nothing about is your genes. I trust you're already a fitness guy as well; it's perhaps time to repeat the labs and/or talk about medication. Good luck. ...Read more

What does a long-tail in a d-dimer test mean? Has high-cholesterol and family history of high b.P./strokes. Had chest pain and shortness of breath

What does a long-tail in a d-dimer test mean? Has high-cholesterol and family history of high b.P./strokes. Had chest pain and shortness of breath

Complicated question: D-dimer is a fibrin degradation product a small protein fragment present in the blood after a blood clot is degraded by fibrinolysis. It is so named because it contains two cross linked d fragments of the fibrinogen protein. It is use to checked blood clots. The other part when you have all these factors, you have tendency for stroke. ...Read more

What are the differences if any between Lipitor (atorvastatin) and crestor when it comes to treatment of high cholesterol?

What are the differences if any between Lipitor (atorvastatin) and crestor when it comes to treatment of high cholesterol?

While there may be: Subtle differences, they are each "statins", the gola is optimizing triglyceride and LDL cholesterol. I was on Atorvastatin for 12 years, and switched to Simvastatin when my co-pay went to $125, and I can get generic zocor (simvastatin) for $6.99. The newer the more expensive. Resuvostatin is newer. Show me the difference is worth the price. ...Read more

My mother has high cholesterol. She is currently taking statins, but they cause her arms + legs muscle pain. Are there alternate treatments?

Yes, but...: There are alternatives. The question is, what are her risk factors in the first place? If no strong family history of heart disease and she isn't a smoker then Zetia (ezetimibe) or fish oil, even red rice yeast are options. However, for those with heart disease or strong family histories only one class of drug has been shown to result in lower adverse clinical events: statins! If statins needed, try each one! ...Read more

Please tell me what should I eat if I have diabetes BP and high cholesterol do you have way to cure all?

Manage, not cure: Hi. Most endo's would tell you we can manage T2DM, high BP, and high cholesterol, but not cure them. If you're morbidly obese, bariatric surgery can cure T2DM and high BP; high cholesterol maybe, but it's usually got a genetic component. But in the absence of bariatric surgery, it is management of chronic condition. Healthy diet and exercise are cornerstones. Many very good med classes for all 3. ...Read more

No, but causes other: Omeprazole is not known to raise cholesterol but I do not recommend anyone use it or similar drugs long-term. My sister has fever since long and she has ESR level of 42 and high cholesterol. Her doctor has put her on antibiotics. Her chest xray is normal. What could be wrong? Can u recommend any test? She gets cold easily. Thanx in advance :)

FUO: Your sister has (by definition) a fever of unknown origin. There is a long list of causes and a standard diagnostic approach. Treating her with empiric antibiotics may not be the best approach if the source of fever is unknown. She should see an infectious disease specialist if her primary doctor isn't fairly certain of the cause. ...Read more
