Fluconazole And Intercourse
Diagnosed with bacterial vaginitis and yeast infection 7daysago. Took Diflucan (fluconazole) and intravaginal AB. White clumps continue and itching back. Monistat3?
Return to doctor: Hmmm... something doesn't compute. Bacterial vaginosis is not effectively treated with intravaginal antibiotics; it requires antibiotic by mouth (usually metronidazole). Fluconazole (Diflucan) usually works well for yeast, but miconazole (Monistat) is very similar and might not help if fluconazole did not. Return to be rechecked by the doctor or clinic where you were diagnosed and treated. ...Read more

Not too long: When you insert a suppository give it at least an hour or more before having sex (you can get this in cream form as well and is much more convenient.) By waiting an hour or more it will give the suppository a chance to melt (quite rapidly) from your body heat. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What will cause vaginal burning and swelling with intercourse? I have a yeasty discharge and have taken diflucan (fluconazole) and used a vaginal treatment as well.
Vaginitis: Any infection or sterile inflammation of the vagina and its introitus (labia) is bound to cause burning and even pain with intercourse. Diflucan (fluconazole) is an excellent oral agent for yeast vaginitis - keeping in mind that some women have recurrent or resistant infections that require weekly Diflucan (fluconazole) for several months/years - only with strict medical supervision. Diabetes can lead to serial infections. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Had UTI, took Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and 1 diflucan pill to take after. 2 weeks later have a lot of burning in vulva and itchiness. Is this a yeast infection?
UTI treatment: Frequently Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) will successfully treat the bug causing your UTI. But sometimes not. I would get a mid-stream collection of your urine at the lab and send it for a culture and sensitivity. That test will what antibiotics will kill the bug. Your doc can check to see if you have a yeast infection. I counsel women to eat yogurt with live cultures when I prescribe an antibiotic. ...Read more

Yeast infection: Yeasts are everywhere. Susceptibility to infection may be influenced by use of antibiotics, steroids, presence of diabetes or any suppression of immunity. I often get yeast infections or BV, i recently taken the Diflucan (fluconazole) pill to cure the yeast but this clumpy cottage cheeselike discharge won't stop.
Difficult problem...: With recurrence of both infections, this is too complex to expect a clear answer here, especially with HealthTap's charcter/word limits. Some yeast infections are resitant to all "azole" drugs, including fluconazole (Diflucan®). Boric acid capsues or MetroGel® sometimes help prevent recurrent BV. Suggest you find a gyn who subspecializes in infectious diseases. Good luck. ...Read more
