Doctor insights on:
Zoloft (sertraline): All drugs have effects and side effects. Typically Zoloft (sertraline) and the other SSRI's cause insomnia (do not take before bedtime), but paradoxically, they can also cause somnolence, sleepiness and a feeling of the blahs- like your emotional spectrum is narrowed. I have been taking ssri escitalopram to be exact for an year but now facing problems with short term memory. Can it be because of meds?
Could be from Xanax (alprazolam): Alprazolam is a short acting drug. It has effects on memory similar to alcohol, which is referred to as state dependent learning. Please google that for an explanation. What that means is that when your blood level is high you remember things that you said and did at other times that your blood level was high. Likewise, when your blood level drops you will remember things that you said and did when your blood level was low.It is for this reason that i primarily prefer to prescribe longer acting benzodiazepines such as valium or Clonazepam depending upon the persons primary anxiety diagnosis. Please discuss this possibility with your psychiatrist. Best wishes. ...Read more

I am taking Clonazepam0.5 mg and Escitalopram 5mg. Now a days I am suffering from light Short Term Memory Loss. How to stop it? Pls prescribe me.
Memory loss: Benzodiazepines like Clonazepam can cause short-term memory loss. I suggest talking with the doctor who prescribed you these medicines about this. Dose adjustment or change to another strategy may attenuate this problem. Also, HealthTap doctors do not prescribe medications for patients they have not spoken with or examined. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Low probability: There are the possibility of low probability side effects. With respect to specific interactions, the most prominent thing to remember is that if you stop taking your xanax (alprazolam) suddenly while taking wellbutrin and Lexapro you may make it more likely that you would have a seizure. You also may find operating a motor vehicle more challenging when taking xanax (alprazolam) with any medications. ...Read more
Is nac safe daily to help treat ocd? I read they dose it around 2000mg to around 4800mg for the pill is that safe? (In use together with escitalopram)
Great Question: There has been some data for several years now suggesting N.A.C. as an alternative medicine for treatment-resistant OCD. As there are no formal guidelines on its use, it would be best to find a local psychiatrist who is experienced in OCD TX and especially one comfortable with N.A.C. Lexapro (escitalopram) generally plays well with other medicines, though it is always worth a double check. ...Read more
I am on wellbutrin, ativan, atorvastatin, escitalopram, lisinopril, abilify (aripiprazole). Can i take propranolol for anxiety/bp?
Use a low dose: Both escitalopram and wellbutrin (bupropion) inhibit liver metabolism (which is how Propranolol is metabolized) and both will result is a stronger Propranolol effect. This will strengthen the effects of Propranolol so start with the smallest dose and monitor your blood pressure and heart rate. It may also make you tired. ...Read more
