Enlargement Of The Heart
In general yes, but: Sometimes, cardiac enlargement can reflect heart failure. In other cases, cardiomyopathy may develop, where the chambers may enlarge because of illness of the heart muscle. However, some trained athletes have enlarged hearts from prolonged training without any evidence of dysfunction or arrhythmia risk. This has been termed "athletic heart"--but telling the difference can sometimes be difficult. ...Read more

Costochondritis: Costochondritis is a benign inflammation of the cartilage near the sternum. Hospitalist said need cath: AV block, biatrial enlargement& cardiac insufficiency. Heart Dr. won’t cath due to my low BP. Should I get second opinion?
Poor cardiac output : It sounds like you are high risk for a cardiac cath. Anesthesia and the procedure alone can drop your blood pressure lower and cause you to have a heart attack, go into hypotensive shock, or acute renal failure. Once they have maximized you on medication and your blood pressure improves they can reassess the risk vs the benefit of performing the catherization. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

No: Uric acid is a marker for heart disease but does not cause heart disease. Elevated cholesterol at your age ( unless you have an inherited form with very high levels) is probably not the cause. See a cardiologist. At your age an inherited valve problem, viral infection, neurologic disease, or autoimmune disease are the likely cause. This can also be normal if you are athletic. ...Read more
LA enlargement : La enlargement is likely due to one of several causes including high blood pressure, valve disease or other structural heart problems. This could be related to the first degree heart block since if the atria is big then it may take longer to conduct from the atria to the ventricle. The best way to evaluate la or left atrial size is by an ultrasound or echocardiogram of the heart. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Whats the difference between right ventricular enlargement, cardiomyopathy and right sided heart failure? What is worse?
Hello again!: RV enlargement can be a SIGN of something wrong with the RV (weakness, pressure or volume overload). Cardiomyopathy means muscle weakness: the ventricle fails to contracts with normal vigor. This can be due to many things: the commonest are viral infection, alcohol, and genetics. If the RV can't handle the load, it may eventually fail resulting in"right sided heart failure". ...Read more
