I used my birth control pills to skip my period 2 months in a row. I've been breakthrough bleeding for a week. Should I just let it start?
Depends: You can stop your pills and let it start, but since it's the middle of a pack you'll need to use condoms until you get 2 weeks into the next package. Or, you could put up with the breakthrough bleeding but stay on track with your pills and then take the placebo pills at the appropriate time. You may/may not have a normal period then, but you'll be protected if you start your next pack on time. ...Read more

Depends: If you stopped the pill and did not start it again, then yes this may be your period. A: A home pregnancy test is 97% accurate if taken a week or more after the missed period, so it sounds as though your negative test should be accurate. A blood test can tell if you are pregnant as soon as 7 days after conception and a doctor's urine pregnancy test can tell if you are pregnant around when you next period should come. Often, not having a period can signal that you are not ovulating. Reasons for this include: medications such as birth control pills, stress, excessive dieting, excessive exercise, or a hormone imbalance such as with a thyroid disorder or polycystic ovarian syndrome. If you continue to miss your period or to have an irregular cycle, give your doctor a call. Good luck! ...Read more

I've been taking birth control for about 6 months. If I would skip a day or two I would spot/bleed. Two weeks ago I missed about 3 days and no period.
Your question?: Regardless of the reason you're on birth control pills, if you're not taking them as directed, they aren't going to be particularly effective. If you're sexually active, you should get a pregnancy test. If the test is negative, discuss with your gyno a contraception method that doesn't require you to remember to take a pill every day. There are other options out there. ...Read more
