Yes.: Inositol is a naturally occurring carbohydrate with 9 stereoisomers. D-chiro inositol(DCI) and Myo-inositol increase the action of insulin in patients with the polycystic ovary syndrome, thereby improving ovulatory function and decreasing serum androgen concentrations, blood pressure, and plasma triglyceride concentrations. I have puffy ankles and rapid weight gain with Novolin (insulin) H, while taking Metformin. Is it possible to take only Novolin (insulin) R with the Metformin?
Weigh gain: Hi. Yes, it's certainly possible to use just R with metformin. Insulin is strongly associated with weight gain. Type 2 drugs that are NOT associated with weight gain, and are actually associated with weight loss include the GLP-1 agonist drugs (Victoza (liraglutide) & Byetta) and the SGLT-2 inhibitor drugs (Invokana & Farxiga). Metformin & the DPP-4 inhibitors are weight neutral. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My endocrinology dr prescribed metformin 500 mg twice based on insulin resistance prediabet and family history of type1diabetes. Why should I take it?
Pre-diabetes: My colleagues think I am crazy but after many decades in Endocrinology I still don't understand the diagnosis of "pre-diabetes". I can never get a meaningful answer. Either one has diabetes or does not. That said, Metformin is available at many stores at no cost so taking 500 twice a day will do no harm and little good. You may later develop diabetes - who knows? ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Glibenclamide/glyburide can cause low blood sugar (rare) or rash (also rare); it is a very archaic diabetes drug. Good luck! ...Read more
