Dequervain's Tenosynovitis Surgery (Overview)

The surgery typically entails releasing the extensor retinaculum (ligament) overlying the first dorsal extensor compartment of the wrist. Often a subcompartment can be noted, and is released in the same setting. The goal is relieve the friction on the extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis longus tendons. The apl can be found to have muliple strands for the surgeon to release as well.
