Why are doctors recommending Zantac (ranitidine) for an allergic reaction or hives?

Why are doctors recommending Zantac (ranitidine) for an allergic reaction or hives?

Good question: Hives (or urticaria) represent a sensitivity to something dilating the small vessels under the skin, causing a raised pink lesion; if u press on it, it will blanch, let it go it pinks up again. Many causes: foods, chemicals, perfumes, very often stress. Stress can increase acid formation in stomach, Zantac (ranitidine) reduces it. Over 50% of time, one can't find cause. I treat initially c antihistamines. ...Read more

If i've conjunctivitis allergy, can it heal by allergy injection therapy ?Tried allergy meds : allegysal, patanol (olopatadine) and avil, Claritin loratadine, please help

Yes: Treatment of allergic conjunctivitis starts with eliminating or avoiding the allergen as well as rinsing the allergen from your eyes with plain water (reduces the allergen load). Allergy shots can help as can oral allergy meds. There are eye drops that help a great deal also. Steroid eye drops are very effective but are not used long term due to risk of glaucoma and cataract. ...Read more

Get tested: Consider seeing a trained allergist for evaluation. Skin testing takes a half hour & can reveal to what you're allergic. It might be the pollens of plants, mold spores, dust mites, or animal dander. Your allergist can help you decide which are relevant & devise a strategy that may include avoiding those allergens, taking medication or receiving allergy injections. Knowiedge is half the battle. ...Read more

Will Claritin (loratadine) allergy controller stop or at least help with allergy rash?

Will Claritin (loratadine) allergy controller stop or at least help with allergy rash?

Depends: The term "allergy rash" is non-specific. If it is poisen ivy or ecxema, a rash characterized by dry, scaly patches where itchiness is a major symptom then antihistamines such as Claritin or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) may be helpful. Zyrtec, in my experience, is actually better for itchiness. In more severe cases, topical or oral corticosteroids may have to be used. ...Read more
