Don't remove : It is best to not remove the cast put on by the doctor. They can wipe you leg down when they change out you cast. Specialist : stress fractures are still fractures and need 6-8 weeks to heal. If you are still having pain then the reason for it happening needs to be looked into. Ankle fracture: Usually for an operated fractured ankle, there needs to be outside stability as well as internal stability around the fracture. This means a splint/cast until fracture healing is deemed satisfactory. It is different for all patients.
