Nerve Damage (Definition)

A complete nerve transection will leave an area totally numb. The distribution of the numbers depends upon where the nerve was cut. A partial nerve injury may leave the area tingly or incompletely numb. Finally even if the nerve is not cut the swelling and bruising to the tea can affect the nerve as well. Usually we consider sharp penetrating injuries as likely having nerve lacerations when sensation is lost. I have to be tested for continine for surgery. How long will it take to get out of my system? Everything I have read has been different.

I have to be tested for continine for surgery. How long will it take to get out of my system? Everything I have read has been different.

Quit tobacco: The variable information is due to the fact that different tests have different sensitivity. If you abstain from tobacco, including second hand smoke for a week, you should be okay. You would do yourself a great favor by quitting use of tobacco permanently once you have gone a week without it. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

If fibromyalgia is believed to be caused by the central nervous system why can't it be fixed with some kind of surgery?

If fibromyalgia is believed to be caused by the central nervous system why can't it be fixed with some kind of surgery?

What to fix?: The problem seems to be faulty signalling from the muscles and organs back to the brain. Pain signals that are sent are not necessarily sent in response to an actual painful stimulus. Many factors - stress, immune system, hormones, mood - all seem to affect the pain signals in FMS patients. Since we don't understand how all this happens yet we don't know exactly what to fix yet! ...Read more

I had my left varicocele surgery done in 2010. Since then I am facing issues in my genitourinary, digestive system and reproductive system.

I had my left varicocele surgery done in 2010. Since then I am facing issues in my genitourinary, digestive system and reproductive system.

Not cause of all sx: "Genitourinary issues" and "reproductive system" cover a broad range of problems. Depending on what they are, it MAY be related to varicocelectomy; I would recommend seeing your urologist. A varicocele is in the scrotal cord, unrelated to the gastrointestinal system. It is unlikely that surgery has anything to do with that. See your primary doctor to discuss your GI symptoms! Good luck! ...Read more

Are all ectopic pregnancies surgery treated with methotrexate?. How long does this drug take to flush out the system before trying again. Thanks

Are all ectopic pregnancies surgery treated with methotrexate?. How long does this drug take to flush out the system before trying again. Thanks

It’s one or theother: It would be very uncommon to “treat with methotrexate” after an “ectopic pregnancy surgery”.. Most early unruptured small ectopic pregnancies can be treated successfully with methotrexate alone. without surgery. When and if ectopic pregnancy surgery is successfully performed, there should be no need for methotrexate. “Trying again”may start once normal ovulatory menstrual cycles have returned. ...Read more

Had surgery, too much anesthesia. Woke up bp 186 heart rate 125. very anxious since then. Could this have messed nervous system? Its been one year

No: The effects of anesthesia wear off very quickly. Certainly within a few hours to days. This would not "mess up" your system or give you a long lasting effect. I suspect something else is a little off like essential hypertension. Get checked out by a qualified health professional. ...Read more

How long will hydrocodone affect my breastmilk? I had surgery on my ACL and was prescribed 5mg. When will it be out of my system so i can breastfee?

Narcotic/breastfeed: You do not need to stop breast feeding if you are on small doses of hydrocodone. As long as your 24 hour intake is less than 30mg, there should be minimal effect on the baby - a little drowsiness may occur, not as vigorous feeding. However, if you really want no exposure and want to pump and dump, it will clear from your system and milk in 48 hours. I would keep nursing! (good luck with your knee). ...Read more

Will I ever need a surgery for my left single system ureterocele? Its size is 4*4 prevoid, sometimes I need to urinate more than once. Further, no underlying health issues.

Depend...: At 27, ureterocele is usually found incidentally from imaging studies like CT or US for abdominal pain with blood in urine so to rule out possible urinary stone, but fortunately bears with no clinical significance (hence, no need for surgical correction for most of such patient.) But what is the unit for 4 x 4, mm or cm? How this may make sense to your health and how to decide its care? Need to.. ...Read more

How long does clindamycin given during surgery stay in the system I had a reaction to it blistered rash and want to know how to minimize the reaction benedryl does not help ?

Only hours: Clindamycin is only around for a few hours. It should be completely gone by 24 to 36 hours. Reactions are commonly caused by histamine. Any antihistamine such as tagamet or Zantac (ranitidine) may provide some relief as well.
