Prevent tetanus: It's unlikely u have tetanus a month after a contaminated injury. Most cases occur about a week or 10 days from the injury. Certain wounds are more likely than others to lead to tetanus-what's necessary is for the organisms to grow and produce toxin. Deep wounds, crush injuries, dirt contamination etc are risks. A cut is a cut: Tetanus is possible when a cut on the skin is contaminated by tetanus spores that are all around, predominantly in soils. It doesn't matter what made the cut if the exposure comes after the skin is open. The rusty nail is the classic source because it is on the ground to begin with when people step on it.
