Won't happen: Forgive my frankness. This is on the same level as worrying about getting pregnant off a bar of soap that a man recently used, or swimming in a pool contaminated with semen. It just doesn't happen. The risk is so low as to be in the realm of fantasy. I would, however, report the incident to the local law enforcement folks. ...Read more

I work as a Massage Therapist and I was wondering if its possible to contract HIV or Hepatitis C from giving an infected person a massage?

No: The risk is too low to measure. In the old days, HIV simply wasn't passed within families from cuddling, bathing, etc., etc., etc. Hepatitis C discordant couples usually do not transmit the infection even after decades of unprotected sex. Hope this helps. Best wishes. ...Read more

Hepatitis and blood: The red cross disqualifies anyone who has had any hepatitis (a, b, c, d or e) or jaundice after the age of 11. Exceptions include non-viral causes of hepatitis or jaundice such as gilbert's disease. Presumably the reason is to cast a wide net over all cases of viral hepatitis to ensure not missing a case of non-a hepatitis. ...Read more

I recently gave blood and had hep c antibodies test positive. How can this be when I don't expose myself to anyway of coming in contact with it?

Check again: If you have had no known exposure (which may be impossible to be 100% sure if one has sexual contact), then get the test repeated to make sure that this was not a lab error. If the test remains positive, then you will need to find out if you have an ongoing Hep C infection which can be effectively treated . The consequence of untreated Hep C may be liver failure or cancer. ...Read more

What will happen if you get hepatitis b vaccine after having a blood transfusing from back sugery years ago?

Nothing specific: If you were exposed to hepatitis through the transfusion, the vaccine would not treat it or hurt you.The vaccine is just a method of teaching your body to develop antibodies to hep b to protect you from future exposures. ...Read more

Yes: But most people already carry this virus. Probably you are one of them. 90% of people colonized by hsv-1 have no symptoms and are not aware that they are infected. If you already carry this virus there is no risk from exposure to it. ...Read more

So I can't get any thing from smoking a cig after someone?

Odds are tiny, BUT: there are things you can get if the cigarette has enough of the smoker's saliva on it. For one thing, oral herpesvirus infections, which can cause everything from cold sores to encephalitis, can be spread in this way. If you have oral ulcers or mouth sores, it would even be possible, but highly unlikely, to pick up hepatitis B, and even more unlikely to pick up HIV or hep C. ...Read more

Can u get hep c from someone hugging you or kissing you on the cheek, just found out from of family has it n worried bad ?

No risk, no worries: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is only transmitted by blood contact. Without blood exposure, household members of persons with HCV are not at risk. Even sex, although often said to be risky, almost never transmits the virus except with traumatic anal sex. Kissing, hugging, and sharing bathrooms, kitchens, or eating utensils are entirely free of risk. So no worries! Good luck. ...Read more

What is the true Window period for HIV? I have had a test 5 months after exposer to a women with unknown risk it was negative and it still worries me.

6 months is: probably a good time to stop testing post exposure. I would recheck again in 1-2 months and if that is negative, I wouldn't worry anymore. ...Read more

There : There are 4 types of hepatitis: a, b, c and d. Most of the concern is around hepatitis b and c since those are the two that can become a chronic disease. Blood tests can be helpful since they will tell you if a person has been infected with either type, whether they have immunity to that type or whether they have chronic disease. Hepatitis b has an available vaccine you should consider if your partner has chronic hepatitis b. The other good news about hepatitis b is that less than 5% of adults exposed to it go on to develop chronic disease. Hepatitis c does not have an available vaccine and most people who contract it do end up having chronic disease. It is recommended that sexual partners be tested for it. If the test is positive for chronic disease in one of the partners, safe sex practices are recommended (condom use). The good news is that sexual transmission between a monogamous couple is rare. Below i linked to 2 websites through the national institute of health that gives more in-depth information on hepatitis b and c. ...Read more
