The brain and spinal cord communicates with what is occurring in the internal organs and limbs by nerve fibers where are like electrical wires with insulation (myelin) and the "copper" (axon). Within brain and spinal cord these nerves connect to other nerves via synapses on both axons and dendrites. A nerve can carry information regarding sensations, and ...Read more

Hi there, I fractured my pinkie toe about 3 years ago and took x rays, I bumped the same toe 3 days ago, it's bruised and very sore at the same place I fractured it before, would you recommend seeing a doctor or just self treatment? Thank you.
Self treatment: Personally, I would give it a good 10-14 days to see if it gets better on its own with simple things like rest, ice, avoiding narrow shoes. Even if it is broken, there is not much we would likely do for it unless it was extremely displaced. If it is not better after that time, might be good to be seen. ...Read more
I fell on my hand last February, and was diagnosed with scaphoid bone bruise. X-ray was inconclusive. I had hand therapy and improved somewhat, but am having worsening pain at the base of my thumb on the palmar side (not the snuff box). It is a deep ache,
Repeat x-ray: I would recommend reevaluation with another x-ray -- this late type of pain after a remote injury can indicate damage to articular cartilage in the wrist in a number of different areas like the articulation between the the thumb metacarpal bone and another wrist bone called the trapezium -- repeat evaluation by an orthopedist specializing in hand is indicated ...Read more
I am an avid rock climber. I have a bruised and swollen middle joint on my middle finger. What are the possible connective tissue injuries/treatments?
Rest: Rock climbing puts a lot of stress on the small tendons and joints in the hand. We really weren't designed to hang by our finger tips. The swelling and bruising is a sign of overuse or strain. I would recommend that you rest the hands until they feel better. This could take a few weeks! If the pain returns as soon as you start climbing again, see a hand surgeon. ...Read more

Can an ultrasound on your neck cause nerve pain in hands? Never had this issue prior to physical therapy.
Possibly: Any thing that causes an injury to your neck can cause arm and hand nerve symptoms, such as pain, numbness or weakness. However, the neck problem that caused you to get ultrasound treatment of the neck is a much more likely culprit for the problems...and hand pain can have many other causes. See Doctor. ...Read more

Right ulnar nerve transposition 9/30/2014. New bruising and swelling at wrist with severe [burning] pain down forearm into D4 & D5. Is this normal?
The bruising around the wrist may be the result of blood from the surgical site, slowly tracking down the forearm. If there is new numbness or weakness you should see your surgeon.
