Benadryl Allergy Plus Congestion
Bad allergies.Claritin, Zyrtec, chlor tabs, and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) no help.Little relief from allegra. Can't use nasal spray or Saline. Any suggestions?
Keep taking..: The allegra (fexofenadine) regularly, not on as needed basis, and see your doctor, you may need prescription medications. Environmental control is important too, i.e. Avoid triggers of your allergies, cats, dogs, smokers, etc.. Better if you can see an allergist, check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area, good luck ...Read more
Allergies occur when your immune system is triggered by envirionmental factors it should ignore--for example, pollen in the air, or dander on a cat or dog--and creates cells to fight against them. An allergic reaction typically causes itching, congestion, or drainage, and ...Read more
Zyrtec, claritin, (loratadine) allegra, clarinex. Other allergy pill options? Year-round, persistant allergies. Wet in ears, post-nasal drip (sore throat).
Before you go : Looking for another allergy medication, i would keep the one that works best for you and take it diligently everyday with a steroid nasal spray twice daily for a month to see a big difference with just burst of meds here and there and only when you feel like it. If you have already done this, then it is time to see your doctor, possibly referral to allergist or ENT depends on what the problem is. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is sedating: Claritin, zyrtec, allegra, or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can help with allergy and asthma symptoms caused by allergies to respiratory pollens or other airborne allergens. One should work with his doctor to see which combination of over-the-counter allergy meds and prescription asthma inhalers/pills work the best. A patient will learn over time, what medicines to add or increase, depending on how "bad" the air is. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Every day I have watery eyes, itchy skin, sneezing constantly due to allergies. I've tried Benadryl, (diphenhydramine) Claritin, nasal spray fluticasone, and Zyrtec?
Which is best for coughing and runny nose (allergies) sudafed or Claritin (loratadine) or claritin-d?
Neither: If you are sure you are dealing with allergies, then an antihistamine is the drug of choice. Sudafed is a decongestant. Claritin is a weak antihistamine and despite the drug labelling can cause drowsiness as can zyrtec. Allegra (fexofenadine) does not cross the blood-brain barrier and thus no drowsiness. A nasal spray either steroid or non-steroid is also useful. ...Read more
Might I use Benadryl (diphenhydramine) itch cream(extra strength) with Benadryl (diphenhydramine) allergy pills?
Need alternative to zirtec for allergy-induced asthma. Allegra and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) don't work, nor albuterol asthma inhalars. Claritin gives me nasal pain.
Allergic help: You will definitely need to speak with your physician about this. Other alternatives include the short acting chlorphenamine (chlortrimetron), sold over the counter. There are prescription medications - xyzal, singulair, xopenex, (levalbuterol) Flonase and more. Ultimately - make sure you speak with your physician about this, since the medications you have tried so far are not providing relief for you. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Typical seasonal allergy meds make my anxiety worse (Clarita , zyrtec, (cetirizine)etc). What otc nosespray is good against sneezing/stuffy nose for allergies?

Whichever works: for you would be the best to use, although it treats only one aspect of the disease, nasal itching and runny nose ,won't affect congestion, also during an allergy season you need to take it on regular, not on as needed basis, in the end if you are not controlled you need to see an allergist ...Read more
Zyrtec (cetirizine): Zyrtec (cetirizine) has more anti-allergy or anti-inflamatory effects than clariten (loratidine) and is often better for most allergic symptoms. It does cause drowsiness in some patients. Antihistamines work best when taken at bedtime if you are taking them on a daily basis - as in a pollen allergy or allergy to a pet that lives in your house. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Whats the best antihistamine for my 12y/o chronic sinusitis allegra Claritin zyrtec or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and what dose ?
Post-nasal drips?: If the cough is from post-nasal drips , then I prefer using cetirizine or fexofenadine. A better option would be a nasal steroid. However if the cough is from a sinus infection, you may then need an antibiotic; from asthma, you will need asthma medications. Best to see a doctor. ...Read more

I've taken 2 caritins within 6 hrs. Its not working can I take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or Advil congestion and allergy relief ?
Is it safe to give a 21 lb (6 mo) baby a dose of benadryl-d for congestion/allergies/sinus trouble? If so, what is the dosage? Thanks
Too young?: It's usually not recommended to medicate babies this young. S/he doesnt have sinuses so, please do not try to treat for 'sinusitis'. Check with your pediatrician before giving any over-the-counter med to your baby. In the meantime, you can give very small sprays of saline into baby's nose and use bulb suction to remove mucus. ...Read more
Severe hives all over & congestion 2 hrs after eating ham, no prev allergy, no fevr benadryl (diphenhydramine) but Sx returned, ER gave corticosteriod...food or viral?
Could be either: Severe hives and congestion after eating ham...could be due to food, but you describe it occurring 2 hours after eating, which is a bit late for a food related allergic reaction. Are you sick currently? Hives and congestion could certainly be related to a viral infection as well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Ped recommended giving 1/2 TSP of Children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to 22mo. I gave it to her then realized it was Children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) PLUS Congestion. OK or NO!
Benadryl (diphenhydramine) syrup : These medications sre not recommended for children under 2 years, the American Academy of pediatrics does not recommend them even for kids under 6 years, 1 dose is not going to cause any problem, if that was given to treat nasal congestion, just use saline nose drops, they are safe and effective. Good luck. ...Read more

I took benadryl around 9pm. Can I take nyquil now at 3 am? Unable to sleep due to congestion/post nasal drip/thick mucus.
Yes: However you are not like to reduce your nasal congestion from these medications. If this is from a cold, an OTC decongestant spray for no more than 5 days may be helpful. If this is from an allergy , try a nasal steroid. If problem persists, will need to consider the presence of a sinus infection and you will need to see your doctor to get examined. ...Read more
